Lezyne Gauge Drive HV Hand Pump

Lezyne’s Gauge Drive is the premier choice for those looking for the best performance and longevity from their hand pump. The Gauge Drive’s HV (high volume) optimized design allows you pump up your high volume, lower pressure tires to your desired pressure with fewer strokes than similar mini pumps. Lezyne achieves this by using an overlapping handle and barrel with an oversized piston and shaft, while maintaining a slim package for easy stowage on the bike, in your hydration pack or jersey pocket.

Simply remove the ABS hose from the inside of the pump, attach the hose to the opposite side of the pump, screw the hose into your valve and you are ready to pump. Other pumps use a rigid attachment to the valve, which may deform the fragile valve head and ruin tubes. Lezyne's ABS Flex Hose allows the pump to move independently of the wheel, protecting the valve head with a more secure connection which prevents accidental detachment, and allowing more ergonomic pumping and less rider fatigue.

Where the Gauge Drive HV really stands alone from other hand pumps on the market, is that is comes with Lezyne’s ABS Pen Gauge, a precise and compact in-line pressure gauge, resulting in accurate air pressures out on the trail, versus playing the guessing game. The ABS (Air Bleed System) features a button which releases excess air out of the hose for easy removal after pumping. The Gauge Drive really is an ingenious design.

The pump's body is a work of art in itself. The handle, barrel and shaft are completely formed of sumptuous anodized, CNC'd Aluminum, while the end caps are constructed of Lezyne's proprietary Composite Matrix material to maximize durability and rigidity. The solid, industrial design will perform in the worst of conditions, holding up to intense abuse and years of use. The Gauge Drive HV comes equipped with Lezyne's famous ABS Flex Hose and also includes frame mounting hardware for mounting on water bottle bosses.

Best Mountain Bike Pump I've Used Yet
I've used many hand pumps and haven't liked a single one. Problems I've had: they don't pump fast enough, they stop pumping altogether, they put too much load on the valve and may break it or at least leak air out of the valve, they do not have a pressure gauge, they are too heavy or too large. This pump is fast, high quality, does not put force on the valve, it has a pressure gauge, and it is light and small.

This pump is for high volume-low pressure tires (mountain) and would NOT work good for a road tire. Although, it would probably be OK for a commuter bike. I typically pump my tubeless mountain bike tires to 22-25 psi and this pump will do it fast and easey. The pressure gage is consistent and easy to read, but I had to practice reading it by comparing to my floor pump. I now know to look at the bottom of the red plunger (not the middle or top). I would suggest practicing with yours once you get it and then you are set.

When I got this pump, I threw my two old ones in the trash (Topeak Mini Dual XG and Blackburn Airstik 2-Stage). Their combined cost was definitely more than this new pump. They (and others) have all left me frustrated and swearing on the side of the trail.

PROS: Durable, Easy to Use, Lightweight, Fast, Does Not Load The Valve

BEST USES: Long Rides, Mountain Bikes

Too much design, less engeneering
Looks great, pumps good. Frame mount is ok. BUT: after 6 months of occasional use the thread in pump head is completely dead. Working part of thread in a plastic cap is just 3 mm deep! Not surprisingly it have failed after several hose attachments...

PROS: Looks great

CONS: Not reliable

Is this for fat tires? Can the guage be precise in the 5-20 lb range?
Jerry W on Feb 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hey Jerry,

While this could work for fat tires, the gauge accuracy is not optimized for pressures below 20lbs. However, it would still help you get out of a jam if you had a flat on the trail.
