Comments about Look Quartz Carbon MTB Pedals:
After about 8 years on Crank Bros pedals I decided to give another brand a shot and it only took one ride to regret going with these. They were easier to set up than advertised (apparently a lot of people have problems shimming them...I didn't) but that was about the only positive.
The inaugural ride was up San Juan and I found the release point to be very unpredictable. At first I thought this was just a breaking in period but I discovered that it had more to do with variation in spring tension from one side of the pedal to the next so, depending upon which side you happen to clip in to, you could wind up with a much later release point than you're expecting.
As a result of the the release variation, I wound up crashing two separate times on the climb, spraining my finger pretty badly in the process. If that wasn't bad enough, I noticed that I couldn't clip in on the DH return and discovered that the spring had bent so that side of the pedal was useless.
I also found out right after I bought these that these pedals had been discontinued so, apparently, Look feels pretty much the same way about them as I do.
Don't buy these...period.

I bought these after becoming fed up with crank brothers pedals - I'd run an old pair of egg beaters for years but finaly wore through the cages and had to repalce them, on the new designs i went through three sets of bearings in a two month period. I replced them with these and never looked back.
They're phenominaly light wieght, the engagement is superb and they offer more of a platform than the egg beaters.
compared with shimano spds they need no set up, just fit them and forget. Mud shedding is superb and they cope with even the worst weather with no real maintainance.
on the down side the shimming of the cleats can be a nuisance and the standard bolts were too short to bite on the sole plate of my shimano shoes, worked fine on my specialised ones though and the slightly longer bolts i had left from my cb pedals fixed the problem any how.
In all theyre expensive but you get what you pay for, i wave a pair of the entry level ones on my winter bike and they're bullet proof.
