MRP Mini G3 Chain Retention System

MRP Mini G3 Chain Retention System

The MRP Mini G3 Chain Guide combines the skid plate and lower guide into one solid piece that can take hit after hit. This integrated skid unit protects important drivetrain parts like your chainrings from being torn apart by rock and root strikes. The MRP Mini G3 is also customizable thanks to a removable lower guide that can be changed to better suit the needs of the terrain. The MRP Mini G3 Chain Guide also features MRP’s Swingset design which allows you to easily change cranksets without having to remove the guide. A integrated pulley ensures proper chain wrap, which allows for consistent and reliable performance - an important factor when flying through a rutted and rooted section of the trail. The MRP Mini G3 will keep both you and your chain on the right track!

MRP Mini G3 Chain Guide Features

  • Compatible with 1x drivetrains (9, 10, 11 speed compatible).
  • Integrated skid plate protects chainrings rocks rocks and other obstacles.
  • Combined skid plate and lower guide design increases durability and simplifies installation.
  • Swingset pivoting skid mount for fast and easy crank and chainring installation.
  • Optional G-slide slider block (included with every guide) can replace the lower guide pulley for quiet, dependable operation in muddy and dank conditions.
  • Nylon upper guide features tracked and grooved backplate interface and pivoting faceplate that allows for stable and straightforward installation.
  • Quietring wrap on the upper guide’s tail mitigates chain-slap for quiet, muted chain retention performance in even the roughest terrain.
  • MRP Mini is for 32-36T chainring sizes (for 36-40T chainring sizes, see the MRP Mega G3)

I've used MRP guides for many years and the G3 is the best yet. Everything that could be improved over the G2 has been. The unified construction of the taco/jockey wheel is much stronger and is hinged at the front bolt of the taco to drop down out of the way for super easy crank installation or removal.

Great guide
I think this is a good chain guide. It is super easy to install, I have the BB mounted version on my nomad. I never hit it hard enough to crack the plastic, but what the previous reviewers don't acknowledge is that the plastic taco is designed to break saving your frame, so you spend $45 on a new slider vs at least $500 on a new front triangle if your tabs break off. With the BB mount I doubt any hit could really damage the frame, but it would be appreciated if my frame had iscg tabs. The guide is quite, looks awesome, and I never had any chain problems with it. I did lose the nut that holds the pulley wheel on in a race but the bolt stayed put so I didn't even realize until I was washing it at home, it was a standard threads that I found at the hardware store.

Great Product
This really helps keep the chain on a 1x setup when you ride rough trails.

I put difficult to install on the cons because aligning the chain line can be a bit tricky, but the actual installation is a breeze.

Protects your front chain ring from obstacles.

PROS: Durable, Attractive Design

CONS: Expensive, Difficult To Install

very smooth, quite, and fits perfect
Very useful for all mountain, freeride, and downhill. Even if you do xc riding with 1x9 set up would be great. Just an awesome chain guide.

Best Chain Guide I've ever used!
I bought this guide knowing that MRP makes great guides and that its the best looking chain guide on the market. The guide comes packaged with multible ISCG sized shins and a mud slide incase you don't want to run the chain wheel that comes mounted on the guide.
The guide mounted easly and perfectly without any hassle and looks the part.
Guide is mounted to my 2014 Intense M9 and chain does not rub and is totally silent.
I will definetly buy MRP guides for my future bike builds.

Locks in that chain!
Good product out of the box, machine work is good but the edges are sharp! I cut myself on the metal plate removing this out of the packaging. Just a general shop practice to deburr or chamfer machined parts. This appeared to come straight off the mil! I installed this chain guide on my Yeti ASR-7. I had to slightly modify the rearmost part of the case to clear my chain stay(odd frame geometry of my bike) with a dremel tool. Yes, I was hesitant to modify a $150 chain guide, uncertain if it would work in the end. Due to chain/chain stay clearance issues, I removed the jockey wheel and replaced it with the supplied slider which lowered the chain. After installing and removing several times, I finally got it tuned in and everything clears. I haven't lost a chain in three months of riding, but this thing is noisy when you get some mud in there.

Great idea, bad execution
First one installed and ridden for two months. No impact evidence on entire taco and tabs that hold the taco on were broken on both side when I removed the bolt swing away. They sent replacement under warrantee and today while riding on a trail with no rocks at all, I look down and the roller assemble outside plate is broken off and missing, the upper chain retention is cracked through, and when I tried to remove the lower tabs cracked out again just like original. Plastic is not durable enough on this one. MRP lost the bubble.

PROS: Compact, Attractive Design

CONS: Plastic Is Brittle, Durability Terrible

Good guide, breaks easily
I love the way this guide works and was initially happy with it. Yet, after a month of use I noticed that the plastic skid had been broken off. I went on to MRP's website and they want me to pay $45 for a replacement skid. I am really disappointed that the guide broke so easily ( I didn't even crash) and that the replacement part, for something as simple as a plastic slider, is $45. I am going get rid of the MRP and get an all-metal guide such as a straitline. I'd rather put that $45 towards someting better!

PROS: Lightweight, Easy To Install

CONS: Flimsy Design, Noisy, Expensive
