Comments about Avid BB7 Mechanical Disc Brake 180mm '11:

Great price. The kit came with all the necessary brackets and hardware. I installed this on the front. Pretty basic install even though the instructions and bracket sheet are poor. But don't follow the instructions on pad adjustment. Experiment with your own specific braking preference. The metallic pads howled like crazy. So the next day I purchased some Avid organic pads and they are way better and no noise and easier to bed and adjust. The metallic pads stink. The hardware bag had 2 small rubber o rings. Does anyone know what these are for?

Comments about Avid BB7 Mechanical Disc Brake 180mm '11:

My old Juicy 5 brakes were inconsistent. The front worked well, but the rear was always at the point of dragging, and had too little lever travel for my liking. There is no adjusting hydraulic brakes. Either they are good or not. So I went mechanical. I can adjust these brakes to my liking. On my first test ride after installing the BB7s, the braking was fairly weak. But don't worry, they just need some break-in. After one 2 hour ride, they gave powerful braking.

Comments about Avid BB7 Mechanical Disc Brake 180mm '11:

I've purchased four of these, for two different bikes. After running BB5's for years, I appreciate the longer pad life in these BB7's. Also, the adjustment is much easier with this model.

On my On*One Scandal with the rear brake mount located on the chainstay, this 180mm rotor provides just enough clearance for the lever to actuate fully in the rear.

I definitely recommend these calipers/rotor for a budget build that comes in way higher than the price point.

Comments about Avid BB7 Mechanical Disc Brake 180mm '11:

I replaced the factory calipers on my bike with these and what a difference! I have had a few hard hits on rocks and trees and the ground and have had no issues with these whatsoever.
I've had a friend who wanted to try hydraulic brakes quickly toss them out to replace them with these calipers because the brakes respond better.
180mm up front and 160mm in the back fits all my riding needs well.

The instructions are complicated. The spacers are not clearly marked or for that matter how you stack them. For a DIT first timer it took awhile to install. Seriously make a book on separate directions in different languages maybe a flow chart if you cannot do that. Your how to videos need to spend more time on the adapters and less on mounting it up. The best installation directions I got for adjusting wasn't even SRAM

Never did like the stock Shimano M416 disc brakes that came on my Trek Valencia hybrid. The BB7 180mm kit was just the ticket. The rotors barely fit on my bike--make sure you measure! Used Origin8 centerlock adapters that worked well. Install was easy although I watched the Avid video on youtube rather than follow the instructions which I found difficult to follow. Even though the ordering dropdown says "front", they had the two different IS adapters that I needed for front and back. Also, my BB7's were stamped 2013 on the calipers and the box--not 2011?!?! Thank you JensonUSA!
