Every bit as good as SLX/XT
Having ridden XTR all the way down to the non-series (below Deore) Shimano brakes, wow. You really don't get a lot more going up to more expensive brakes. These Deores have every bit as much power as SLX or XT brakes, but you give up the modulation offered by Servo-Wave (XT Level) and Ice-Tech pads. But guess what... most people don't even need Ice-Tech or Servo Wave. They need brakes that stop and aren't a pain to take care of. Deore brakes are a tad heavier and not as pretty as XT or SLX, but they are every bit as powerful, and at a lower cost as well. Pony up for XTs if you're looking for the best brakes for the buck, but these won't fail you either.

PROS: Simple, Durable, CHEAP

CONS: A Little Heavier, No Servo Wave

BARGAIN!
We have a set of these on one bike, and a set of XT's on another very similar one. Other than some additional adjustments on the XT's... I can't really tell the difference in feel or effectiveness. Given our experience with the Deores, we elected to replace a beat-up rear brake on a friend's Intense M3 - retaining the 203 discs and mounting bracket. Money was an issue, but can't really scrimp to hard for DH. Give our experience with the Deores and the "reasonableness of cost" - in my opinion..., these may be the best bang for the buck that you can currently find. They come up hard, modulate nicely, will accept the ICE pads if you need more cooling, and possess all of the typical Shimano quality & polish. They simply work, and were a bargain to-boot. Would I recommend them to a friend. OH HECK YEA!!

I own deore xt's and these have just as much power as the xt's the only thing you loose is the fine tune adjustments. For 90% of riders out there xt and above isn't necessary. You will set you reach and be done with it. Setup was easy just loosen the bolts pump the brake up and hold then slowly tighten the bolts.

bad brake
First set had piston failure in about 100 miles. Second set has slop in the handle before stopping begins. Doest have enough force to lock the rear tire when needed. Feels like the piston will blow again if squeezed too hard.

PROS: Easy To Install

CONS: Poor Stopping Ability

Short Hose
These are excellent brakes. Would be better if Jenson mentioned that the rear hose is not 1700 mm long. By my rough measure, they are about 1300 mm. Since these are OE brakes, they must have come cut to fit certain bikes. Would have been nice to know that up front.

Awesome brakes and price.
I put this on my new Scott Voltage 24in DJ bike. Replaced stock mech disc brake. Way way better! Just like my XTs on my trail bike but cheaper. Great deal and brakes!
