Originally only available as a 80mm deep tubular wheel, the Mavic Cosmic CXR was first introduced to the world on July 3, 2011, when it helped lead team Garmin-Cervelo to the Team Time Trial victory at the Tour de France, proving to the world that Mavic not only had mastered the art of aerodynamic wheels, but had also raised the bar for aero wheel engineering. The secret? Mavic’s new integrated wheel-tire system dubbed CX01. CX01 incorporates the tire shape and design into the wheel, and allows a plastic blade to fit into a channel on the rim to seal the gap between the tire and brake track for less drag. When combined with the slightly altered casing profile and special tread texture of the included matching Yksion CXR tires, the result is an almost flawless surface that when paired with the Cosmic CXR’s deep-dish rim profile, you get one of the lowest aerodynamic drags ever measured on a road Wheel-Tire system. The race proven CX01 technology is now available as 60mm clincher, ideal for road racing, criteriums, triathlons, time trials, and any other kind of bike race where wind plays a factor.
When Mavic decided to mold CX01 technology to a clincher, they also added an Exalith 2 brake track for high braking performance in all weather conditions. On top of more stopping power, the aluminum braking surface provides a shorter braking distance, while keeping pad wear minimal and delaying rim wear. Special black Mavic Exalith 2 brake pads are included to ensure quiet high braking performance and a prolonged life span. Further complimenting the ingenious design, the Yksion Griplink front tire provides grip and control, while the Yksion Powerlink rear tire is optimized for reduced rolling resistance. Double butted, straight pull spokes lace the rim and hub together in a radial crossed 2 pattern. The carbon constructed hub bodies with aluminum flanges and axles provide added stiffness and durability at the wheel’s core.
Tour de France proven and wind tunnel tested, the Cosmic CXR 60 can safely be labeled as one of strongest choice wheels for those who look to shave off time at an upcoming time trial, for those who need a set of wings to get them through an Iron Man, or for hardnosed breakaway specialists looking to stay away all the way.
