Mavic R-SYS SLR WTS Wheelset 2014
You can’t walk into your local bike shop or ride with your local club without hearing this and that about aerodynamics and carbon fiber, as if those were the only answer to becoming faster. Sure, carbon is light and stiff, and aerodynamics look pro and help out on the flats, but there is more to the road than that. When the pavement slopes upward, a beast of a different kind is required… a beast such as the R-SYS SLR C. Incredibly lightweight, responsive and resilient, the R-SYS SLR C just might be the most climber-friendly wheel on the market.
At a mere 1295 grams, the R-SYS SLR C is one of the lightest alloy wheelsets available, and comes with no shortage of technologies. Perhaps the one that stands out the most is Mavic’s Tracomp carbon fiber spokes which limit wheel deflection with the very high traction resistance of carbon fibers, and prevent flex under greater loads by entering into compression to keep support on the rim should a spoke loosen. The clever Fore technology enables the rim to be 4 times more resistant to fatigue stress and 20% more rigid to maximize power transfer. How is this achieved? Instead of being drilled, the lower rim bridge is pushed up and threaded on the inside of the rim, allowing spoke nipples to be directly screwed into it, keeping the upper rim bridge untouched.
To shed weight off of these bad boys, ISM 3D spoke milling process machines the lower bridge of the rim between each spoke hole, as well as the side walls to use as less material as possible, resulting in easier, faster climbing, and less inertia. Now, what goes up must come down, so it would only make sense to give a great climbing wheel the stopping power to descend comfortably. This is where Exalith 2 high braking performance comes in to play. The Mavic exclusive Exalith 2 technology for aluminum rims has been refined to provide a very high level of durability and braking performance in all weather conditions. Exalith 2 shortens braking distance by 18% in wet conditions while keeping brake pad and rim wear to a normal level.
The R-SYS SLR C comes as a wheel-tire system, meaning not only do you get the wheelset, but you also get a set of Yksion tires which were designed to work in sync with Mavic wheels for the best possible set up. The front wheel comes with a Yksion Griplink for traction and control, while the rear wheel uses a Yksion Powerlink to reduce rolling resistance.
Whether you pride yourself on being the first to summit, or look to crush all the popular uphill Strava segments in the area, the R-SYS SLR C was designed to do just that. Grace your horse with this set of legs and get your climb on!
