Maxxis Ignitor EXO 29" Tire

The Maxxis Ignitor tread pattern was designed for the most discerning professional racers. The well-spaced tread pattern fills in nicely to provide low rolling resistance in the straights, while the ramped pentagonal knobs provide excellent traction in the corners and in medium soil. The World Cup winning tread pattern is paired with Maxxis' EXO side-wall protection to make this fast tire nearly indestructable as well. The EXO protection is a lightweight, highly flexible material woven into the sidewall to prevent any sidewall cuts or tears.

Use this tire on the front of my 29'er. Rode over the winter month, slipery trails with plenty of mud, snow and rocks, tire bit well in all circumstances. Real confience builder!!

Comments about Maxxis 29X2.1 Ignitor 120Tpi Exo Folding:

This is my second tome around with the Ignitor, I loved the tire, and now run it in a combo with the Ardent in front and Ignitor in back. I will preface this by letting readers know that I am a 60 year old Clyde of 250 lbs. who has been riding MT for 30 + years. I still ride hard, daily, and still tackle some fairly technical trails i.e. wet roots and rocks, scree, mud, and often in loose over hard conditions. I ride an XL Garry Fisher 29er frame.
I had read complaints pertaining the Ignitors soft compound making for poor wearability, but I did not find that to be true at all. I got two solid years of daily riding on cement, on my way to single track, and then some. The ignitor I replaced with with a quarter of it's tread left, will still make a great summer time tire here in the Northwest after things dry out a bit. When things turn to muck here in the NW we turn to traction tires. I tried the number one go to tire, the Kenda Nevegal, and while they provided great traction, they were like riding in cement, and switching to the ignitors was the best of both worlds, traction, and super fast roll-ability. In short I would highly recommend the Ignitor, and or paired with the Ardent in front. To date this is the best combination I have run ever. I went this way after reading several similar reviews pairing the Ardent and Ignitor as a great combo. They weren't lying. The ignitor is fast and a a great all around traction tire, and the Ardent provides great roll-ability as well, but with superior cornering and control. These are great tires at an affordable price.

Comments about Maxxis 29X2.1 Ignitor 120Tpi Exo Folding:

Great tire front or rear, It's a little heavy on the rear, but the sidewall strength is amazing as is the traction. As a front it simply grips and bombs like nothing else out there. Trail full of dust? Don't worry, hit that corner fast, it won't wash out. Sure it's pricey, but worth every penny.

Comments about Maxxis 29X2.1 Ignitor 120Tpi Exo Folding:

If you are a racer type obsessed with speed and tires which greatly sacrifice traction for low weight - then this is the winter tire for you. Marginally heavier, and enough traction for light snow riding with your fatbike buddies.

NOTE: this isn't a nevegal, this isnt a studded tire so don't set super high expectations. Mine were way advertised weight, see the tire weight database on MTBR for reference.

OH, and also, i run this tire on my other bike in the summer on the front in sub-par conditions for a little extra traction.

This tire is light and offers great grip. I am running it as a front tire. Some reviews say it is too thin, but I think its just right, especially for X country mtn biking. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it came in a little heavier than advertised (635 grams). Still very light. Also tough as nails (so far). I got the EXO version. Would definitely recommend this tire. Although I am using an IKON on the rear, I am pretty sure the ignitor would be a good rear tire as well.

Comments about Maxxis 29X2.1 Ignitor 120Tpi Exo Folding:

A friend recommended these, so I purchased a pair. They were a pain to set up tubeless on Stan's 355's. Got one installed with a lot of huffing and puffing and a big mess! Rode for three rides in NM loose over hardpack terrain and instantly noticed this tire slipped on the slightest incline if I would stand and mash on the SS. Ripped a 12mm hole in the sidewall on 3rd ride. Into the garbage they go. Don't buy! Spend your money on less expensive tires in this category. I was on the 29er version. Maybe 26er and tubeless versions are better.

I like the predictable feel and feedback the tire gives me. It's light for a 29er tire and has plenty of grip on Colorado singletrack.
