Maxxis Aggressor 27.5" Tire

Maxxis Aggressor 27.5" Tire

Exceptional all-around performance

As a true jack of all trades and master of none, the Maxxis Aggressor embodies everything that Trail stands for. Not quite as aggressive as a true all-mountain/enduro tire and not quite as lightweight or fast as a true cross-country tire, the Aggressor is designed to deliver a little bit of the best of both worlds. Advanced knob shaping creates extra gripping edges, and reinforced side knobs offer enhanced stability when cornering at speed. This multi-disciplinary tire excels on everything from loose fire road climbs to technical descents.

Features

  • Dual Compound offers lower rolling resistance and increased cornering grip.
  • Double Down (DD) ) 120 TPI dual-ply construction option is reinforced with a butyl insert to provide the enduro racer with the support and protection of a downhill tire, but in a lighter package.
  • EXO Protection features cut and abrasion-resistant sidewalls through its densely woven fabric.
  • Tubeless Ready (TR) tires provide the benefits of a UST tubeless tire without the weight penalty.

First off the tire mounted very easy with just a floor pump needed. I'm running wtb i25 hoops with a inside measurement of 25 mm and out side 30mm. Mounted the tire measured 2.25 not uncommon for maxxis.
I was running a HR2 DC on the rear before mounting up the Aggressor. In my opinion the Aggressor is a faster rolling tire over the HR2 and ardent. With just as much side bit as the HR2 and minion 2. Climbing the new aggressor is hocking up nice and really bitting down. That was one was one of my problems with the HR2. Over all really happy with the tire.

PROS: Attractive Design, Easy To Install

CONS: Heavy

Awesome tire!
Bought this tire to go on the rear. I was looking for better rolling, more speed, better climbing, and no loss in cornering compared to a High Roller II. That is exactly what I got. Noticeably faster and easier to pedal and the non-ramped tread patters is great for climbing. The blocks grab everything and I don't slip on uphill roots and rocks now like I did before. I ride this tire on everything from xc loops to DH laps at the park and it gets the job done.

Love it
Just replace the prototype version I had. Love that tire. Paired with a minion up front. This balance the bike perfectly

My new rear tire choice
Fantastic rear tire. I've tried Maxxis Ardents, Ikon, Minion Semi Slicks...but this tire takes the cake for my rear tire choice. It does roll a little slower, but the grip is fantastic and insanely confidence inspiring. The tire dual compound seems to be spot on for a rear tire also, not overly soft in the center tread.

Excellent do-all trail tire
Ran this as a rear with knobbier tire up front for late fall/winter and sloppy spring riding in Vermont. Hooks up well and rolls quickly. Planning to run one on front of my trail bike now that things have dried out.

This tire is actually about 2.3" when mounted on a syncros 23mm internal rim. the volume is about the same as a 2.4" Ardent on the same rim.

Awesome
Perfect Colorado rear tire. DD version is a little heavier than most but well worth the weight for added protection. My new go to rear tire for sure!

A perfect rear tire for SoCal
Great on the back paired with a meatier tread up front like the DHF WT 2.5. Also works well as a general trail tire up front with an SS out back - during the damper months here.

Great rear dry loose/hardpack tire
I bought this to replace a HR2 rear tire on a YT capra. Used gorilla tape/stans for tubeless on DT swiss spline E1900 rims and went riding 30 minutes later with no air leakage, and haven't had any issues with that since. Went to mountain creek NJ when it was tacky, blue mountain PA when it was dusty and blown out, and allegrippis/NC riding. It rolls faster than a HR2, doesn't brake quite as well, but almost corners as well. On hardpack clay trails (allegrippis, warrior creek, OVT) it is a touch sketchy if it just rained and you get a light greasy coat on top of the clay. Was looking for something between an ardent and HR2 for longer technical rides but proved great at the bike park as well.

THE AGGRESSOR
Let me start by saying that this tire rolls and grips amazing in HARDPACK conditions. I am currently running "the aggressor" as my front tire and I am pretty happy with it . I have tried different combos DHR/Ikon, Nobby Nic/Ikon,Hans/Hans Etc and so far this has been the faster set up I've had. The tire does not perform well in muddy conditions since the knobs are too close to each other.

Superbly predictable
Excellent traction, and predictably progressive from railing to drift. I prefer them front and back for loam/tacky, or swap the front for a DHF in silty/softer dirt conditions.
