for gnarly trails
Simply put, this was a no brainer for me. I ride singletrack in vermont and found my stock bontrager tires left me washing out in the corners and hiking the rocky uphills. Did my research and chose the ardents. Couldn't be happier! They grip everything, roll great on trails, and are crazy rugged. The price is on the higher side but worth it. These won't disappoint.

PROS: Grippy, Durable, Attractive Design

CONS: Expensive

BEST USES: Downhill, Mountain Biking

Middle ground
I believe the tire is a good middle ground between an XC tire and an real knobby all mountain tire. Its got massive volume which I appreciate but it may be that I haven't dialed the correct pressure yet so that I don't feel it grabs corners as good as my Forté Pisgah, which are cheap tires, rather heavy, but get the job done. I ride XC but I ride aggressively and I believe that these are not as great in the rough stuff but very fast as well. Again, middle ground.

PROS: Easy To Install, Easy Tubeless

BEST USES: Aggresive Xc, Mountain Biking

Pretty stoked
These were the default tires that came on my Kona Taro however there was the 2.25" wide one on the rear. After converting to tubeless and having numerous blowouts in the rear I decided it was time to try something new back there. Having good success up front with the 2.4 I decided to give it a try in the back. After removing the 2.25 rear I noticed how floppy it's side wall was compared to the 2.4 and I knew it was going to perform much better tubeless.

On the trail the bike feels like a beast and is a lot more stable and confidence inspiring. I'm back to sending over the stumps and jumps again.

PROS: Durable

CONS: Heavy

Great traction
It's tubeless ready and easily installed. My first tubeless and as a front tire I am pushing faster every ride. Leaks almost no air, I rate that high for my 1st time tubeless

PROS: Easy To Install

Just Buy It
I've used quite a few different tires for a fe different brands and Maxxis tires are hands down the best. They last more miles and the sidewalls are stronger. I like the design of Continental but they SHRED to pieces. I run a Maxxis in front and a Ikon on the back of my FS and two Ikons on my HT race rig.

PROS: Attractive Design, Durable, Easy To Install, Lightweight

BEST USES: Mountain Biking, Racing

Perfect tire for a rigid bike. It rolls well for a big tire. I've got this tire front &a rear on my rigid 29er Singlespeed.

Rolls faster than you would think
I wanted a little more volume up front on my hardtail so decided to give the 2.4s a try. I was concerned it would be a slower rolling tire but I was wrong. It obviously doesn't roll as fast as a SB8 or other lightweight XC tire but considering the siize and aggressive knobs, it rolls amazingly well. I like trying different brands/models of tires but I will probably replace it with the same when it comes time.

PROS: Traction, Fast Rolling

Ardent EXO TR 29X2.4
Works great for use on all mountain, dry, rocky, technical terrain, It is my go to tire for the Colorado intermediate to Black Diamond trails I like to ride. I find it gives me the confidence to ride longer more techy trails without the fear of cutting the sidewall open. It is one of the few tires I can actually wear out the tread before slicing open the sidewall. I use the 26X2.4 EXO TR version as a front tire and the 26X2.25 EXO TR for the rear on my 2010 575 Yeti and 29X2.4 EXO TR both front and rear on a 2015 Specialized Enduro Expert.
I like to run pretty low tire pressures and the tires perform very well for me.

PROS: Great All Around Tire, Suportive Casing, Rolls Well, Good Grip When Dry, Lightweight, Easy To Install, Seals Well With Sealant, Very Cut Resistant, Durable, Large Volume

CONS: Small Intermediate Knobs, Can Pack Up With Mud, Can Slip When Wet

Like turning a wheel made of stone
I put this on the front of my steel rigid. The overwhelmingly positive reviews from forum users led me to this choice. It is as described aggressive, great traction, and heavy. The only two real downsides to this tire is the bead is very loose causing tubeless installs to be iffy and the fact that you really need a rim with a wider than average width to take advantage of the tread pattern and high volume tire.

PROS: Attractive Design, Aggressive, Durable

CONS: Heavy, Loose Bead

Best trail tire in terms of performance, cost, durability and weight
Best well balanced tire in the market in terms of performance, cost, weight and durability. Its unmatched. Traction was great and grippy. Wears slowly and very light for such a performace tire.

Is this the 61-622 ETRTO or the 56-622 29x2.4 tire?
A shopper on Mar 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Mine was the 29x2.4 tire.
This tire doesn't have "EXO" written on the sidewall like other Ardents I've bought. How can I tell if it's actually an EXO tire?
Joe on Apr 14, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, this is indeed an EXO version of the Maxxis Ardent. If ordered, the tire you receive will say EXO on the sidewall.
