Maxxis Ardent 29" Tubeless Ready Tire

Maxxis Ardent Tubeless Ready Tire

The Maxxis Ardent has an aggressive tread in a high volume casing that provides exceptional traction without compromising a low rolling resistance. Racers unforgotten, the Ardent features large block style side knobs with numerous edges for high speed cornering and a central tread that’s optimized to enhance both braking and acceleration, while the ramped knobs smoothen things out minimize rolling resistance. Further enhancing traction and speed is Maxxis’s Dual Compound which consists of two compounds used within the tread of select tires to offer lower rolling resistance and increased cornering grip.

This version of the Ardent is Tubeless Ready, meaning you get the benefits of a UST tubeless tire without the weight penalty. Maxxis Tubeless Ready tires use a standard casing and require the use of a liquid sealant in order to make them airtight. Maxxis Tubeless Ready tires are the only Maxxis tires approved for use with liquid sealants and using a liquid sealant in any non-TR Maxxis tire will void the warranty.

Not me, but a guy I know
I bought these to replace a tire I borrowed from a friend during a bike weekend. Maxxis are best. Way better than what I had to replace, but I wanted something tough and grippy to give to my buddy. I would recommend this (and any Maxxis tires) to anyone.

Road this tire at Gooseberry Mesa this weekend and it was great. I've owned many other brands but I keep going back to Maxxis. Great tire!

Easiest tubeless tire I've ever mounted.
I have one of these tubeless ready and a UST on my hard tail. They have been by far the easiest tires to mount and seal tubeless. I've been accustomed to setting aside 45 minutes of struggle to get a new tire on and sealed. Pretty sure it took me 5 minutes per tire with the Ardents and I could have done it with out my compressor. Heck, if I would have known about these tires a year ago I might not have bought the compressor.

I don't have any comments on the durability of this tire yet, but I do have the UST variety on the front of my HT and have no issues so far.

Handling is acceptable for low desert conditions. They feel wide for size and offer plenty of cushion.

Works well for my Niner
Switched from An ikon to this in the back of my yeti sb95c. Grips better although it weighs a bit more but worth it. Still running original ardent in the front so pretty sure it'll outlast the ikon

Awesome super aggressive tread
I recently joined the mountain bike community as an overweight guy that hoped to find something that made exercise seem like fun. I bought a Trek xcalibur at the bottom end of the price spectrum to test the waters and see how I like it. I am loving it and soon found myself getting pinch flats on almost every ride with the stock tires here in the Nevada desert near Las Vegas. My friend suggested a tubeless conversion so I came here and ended up purchasing a pair of these 2.4" Ardents.

The tread is super aggressive and just makes me smile when I look at it. The high volume makes it a pretty tall tire and I did have to replace the stock front derailer to make room. So far I have put about 20 miles on these tires in rough desert terrain with lots of big sharp rocks everywhere and have not had any trouble. If I were to buy again I would buy the exo sidewalls but being a noob I didn't know about them.

Overall these tires are awesome and make you smile just looking at them. I am making more climbs and have not had a flat yet. I gave 4 stars only because I believe the exo tires for a few more dollars are likely a better value.

Is this the EXO version of the Ardent TR 2.4?
DG on Oct 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No EXO protection on the description, just the tubeless ready and the width
you prefer on the drop down menu. I have this one on 27.5 2.25 and is a
great tire but not the best grip. I will try the 3C version better. For the
sidewall protection you'll be covered.
How likely is it to puncture the tire.
The Mountain Biker on Jun 28, 2016
BEST ANSWER: That is a very challenging question to answer, and depends on so many different factors. It will vary by rider size, type of riding, level of skill, type of terrain, tire pressure, and luck. With that being said, this is a tubeless sealant compatible tire which reduces puncture failure from thorns and small holes. However, if you are looking for more sidewall protection against rocks, I'd recommend the EXO version of this tire.
How likely is the tire to pop or pucture running with a tube.

It will vary by rider size, type of riding, level of skill, type of terrain, tire pressure, and luck. With that being said, this is a tubeless sealant compatible tire which reduces puncture failure from thorns and small holes, but you would need to run sealant in your tube or run this tire tubeless with sealant. However, if you are looking for more sidewall protection against rocks, I'd recommend the EXO version of this tire.
