Maxxis Ardent Race 3C 29" Tire

Maxxis Ardent Race 3C Exo 29" Tire

The Maxxis Ardent Race Tire uses a medium-height tread, making it a cross bred race tire that unearths the middle ground between the cross-country inspired Maxxis Ikon tire and the trail-ready Maxxis Ardent. The middle knobs are ramped to reduce rolling resistance, while the side knobs are angled and stepped to offer confidence-inspiring grab and traction in the corners. Additionally, the Ardent Race 29" Tire features the 3C Maxx Speed compound which uses two compounds in the outer layer that are specifically devised to reduce rolling resistance and further enhance traction and longevity. The result is a tire that’s capable of tackling both demanding XC race courses and long distance endurance tests.

This select model of the Ardent Race is tubeless ready and features EXO protection which is an extremely cut-resistant, abrasion-resistant, densely woven fabric that’s added to the sidewalls to greatly reduce the chance of sidewall cuts and abrasions, while remaining lightweight and flexible.

I buy this tire every time
I ride mostly Southern California hard pack The tire has great cornering traction and low rolling resistance because of the sharp rocks I buy the XO sidewalls never have any problems

PROS: Durable

My favorite 29er tire!
These tires are excellent, I used these in place of Maxxis Ikons which are very good tires but they can be overpowered if your not careful. The Ardent Race just grips much better yet it still feels just as light, nimble and easy rolling. The transition from center knobs to edge knobs is very smooth and the durability/wear is excellent. I run these tires tubeless with sealant at 22-25 lbs.

PROS: Durable, Lightweight, Easy To Install, Attractive Design

Almost can have your cake and eat too.
I would recommend this tire for xc who wants a little more grip. It's fast rolling, great grip for climbing and braking. Less grip on hard turns, due to small outside nobs. Ride is not soft, exo sidewall is really stiff. Had to run lower psi, 20 front, 22 rear.

Light, fast and good grip
I am riding in the north Georgia mountains so trails are not too technical and it's mainly single cross country trails. This tire is so far perfect for this terrain. Very easy to set up as tubeless and install.
Used it 4 times so far for about 100 miles. All good overall.

Excellent tire, but not a corner ripper
I realize it's a fast rolling XC tire, so I'm not expecting it to be a claw in the corners.

Maxxis ardent race perfect in the back
Using it as a rear tire in the trails of El Paso, Texas which are dry, hard pack with some sand and granite rocks. I was originally concerned about uphill traction but it has worked out perfectly. It drifts a little on loose sharp turns but it catches traction predictably. Paired it with an Aggressor up front. Good trail combo.

Ardent race review
I have been riding them in and on the infamous east coast rocks. So far so good. They may become a go to tire for me.

Great Tire
Great follow up design the Ardent tires. I enjoyed the lightness and low rolling resistance of the Ardent but I hated the slide with the lack of transition treads. The Ardent race fixed this for me. Great traction when transitioning through the corner treads.

PROS: Great Traction, Lightweight, Durable

BEST USES: Loose Over Hard Packed, Hard Pack, Mountain Biking

How is the Maxxis Ardent Race 3C, Exo 29" 2.2 version non-tubless?
Josh C on May 16, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Josh - I have been using these tyres for the last 18 months in Kenya on very hard, abrasive trails (we ride mainly on livestock tracks in the rift valley). They have performed very well and whilst I am mostly a weekend warrior, I have done some multi-day events on these tyres also. They have not worn quickly and have provided a good balance for me between decent grip and easy rolling for longer rides. I will say that in very muddy conditions they do not shed the mud as easily as I would like and I understand that is the pay-off compared to the standard Ardents, which are grippier, shed mud easier but not as fast. I have had Schwalbe and Continentals (XKing) but these Ardent Race tyres are now my preference. Hope that helps!
