Maxxis Ikon 3C EXO 29" Tire
The Maxxis Ikon 3C tire is for dedicated racers looking for a dedicated race tire. Shorter knobs in the center reduce rolling resistance while the higher side knobs will provide plenty of grip while cornering those loose-over-hardpacked turns. The 3C Triple Compound Technology consists of a base layer and an outer layer. The outer layer uses two compounds that are specifically formulated to lower rolling resistance and optimize tread-wear and traction, for better performance and a longer life-span. This select model of the Ikon 3C features EXO protection which is an extremely cut-resistant and abrasion-resistant densely woven fabric that's added to the sidewalls to greatly reduce the chance of sidewall cuts and abrasions, while remaining lightweight and flexible. As its name suggests, the Ikon represents all that is true in Cross Country mountain bike racing.

However, on dry hardpack, like Raystown, it's great. A cyclocross tire would be fine there, though.
CONS: No Grip In Wet Conditions, Limited Knob Coverage, Slides Around On Loose
Q & A
generally a heavier stiffer casing will use a larger nylon cord with less Threads Per Inch , like 60 or 30.
the 60 will be toughfer but wont ride as smooth and won't hook up as well, the 120 will be lighter smoother and have better traction.
