Maxxis Ikon 3C TR 29" Tire

Maxxis Ikon 3C 29” Tire

The Maxxis Ikon 3C tire is for dedicated racers looking for a dedicated race tire. Shorter knobs in the center reduce rolling resistance while the higher side knobs will provide plenty of grip while cornering those loose-over-hardpacked turns. The 3C Triple Compound Technology consists of a base layer and an outer layer. The outer layer uses two compounds that are specifically formulated to lower rolling resistance and optimize tread-wear and traction, for better performance and a longer life-span. As its name suggests, the Ikon represents all that is true in Cross Country mountain bike racing.

  • Ideal for: Hard pack, loose, loose over hard, & medium
  • High-volume, lightweight true racing tire
  • 3C Triple Compound Technology
  • Size: 26x2.20
  • Bead: Foldable
  • Weight: 520g
  • Compound: 3C Maxx Speed

Maxxis Ikon 3C 29er tires.
For the past year or so I was running Racing Ralf and really didn't care for them, they slid all over the place. Front end always felt lose and was sliding out on me all the time. I run a varied type of terrain so I know I'm asking a lot of a single type of tire. Everyone locally was saying they liked the Ralf's, but for me the Maxxis Ikons just killed the Racing Ralf's. Way more confidence going hard into corners I would usually back off from I can now take much hotter with out using the brakes so much. In all fairness I was running tubes in the Ralf's and went tubeless in the Ikon's.
So far the durability is great, the weight difference isn't as big as some make it.
The only thing I found was a little difficult about these tires was mounting them to my Mavic Crossmax rims (that could just be me though!)
All in all these tires for me are the bomb! There great in the hard packed stuff even with lose on top sliding around. they do well for me in mud and clay mud at that! They are a little loud for road noise on asphalt or concrete, but that's subjective I think to what is acceptable to an individual.
Awesome service from the folks at Jenson as usual, Keep up the outstanding service!

Is this tire tubeless compatible?
G T on Jul 18, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it is also the best all-around tire out there! Light, low rolling resistance and tough! This is all my friends and I roll with in the Mighty Wasatch Mountains of Utah! Now you can get it in a 2.35! Still light and even more grip and rip!
