Maxxis Ikon DC 29" Folding Tire

The Maxxis Ikon is ideal for most cross-country riding on dry hard-packed surfaces. The tread compound provides a long wear life, as well as low rolling resistance. Shorter knobs in the center reduce rolling resistance while the higher side knobs will provide plenty of grip while cornering those loose-over-hardpacked turns. If you're looking for a true lightweight race tire, the Ikon is it.

Features:

  • Intended Usage: Designed for medium to loose, hard pack to loose over hard conditions
  • Compound: Dual Compound
  • Bead Type: Folding bead
  • TPI:60
  • Max PSI:65
  • Weight: 580g (claimed)
  • Manufacture Part Number: TB96753300

Comments about Maxxis Ikon DC 29" Folding Tire:

I did 3 rides on these and a rock scuffed on the sidewall and sliced it open and got a flat. Ridden this area for the past 10 years, and never had a tire failure like this. For the money, the tire should hold up like the rest of the tires I have beat on in these same situations.

    Not a bad tire...

Comments about Maxxis Ikon DC 29" Folding Tire:

This tire came stock on the rear of my SB-95. Out west or somewhere trails are buffed out, this might be great. However, I didn't think this stood up to the challenges of technical New England singletrack. Great rolling resistance, but not enough grip. Changed to a 2.25 Ardent in the back (to match the 2.35 Ardent up front) and have way more traction and confidence on those quick steep ups and downs. The minimal rolling resistance tradeoff is well worth it. Also, the sidewall of this tire became threadbare well before the tread was worn enough to replace.

Overall, there was nothing particularly wrong with this tire, just the wrong tool for the job in my opinion.

Comments about Maxxis Ikon DC 29" Folding Tire:

light and fast, I used this as a rear with Ardent in the front. mounts east and rolls fast, could have a little more grip but that's what you give up for less rolling resistance.

Comments about Maxxis Ikon DC 29" Folding Tire:

Switched out a set of crossmarks. The crossmarks are a great tire so this was not an easy desion. But the Ikons roll as fast with added grip. If they wear as well as the crossmarks I'll be a happy rider.
