Maxxis Minion DHF Wide Trail 27.5" Tire

Maxxis Minion DHF 27.5" Wide Trail Tire

Aggressive riding calls for an aggressive tire. The Maxxis Minion DHF 27.5" Wide Trail Tire delivers both speed and precision all thanks to its directional knob design that maintains a firm grip on the descents allowing for a faster plunge into the technical terrain. The Maxxis DHF is a tire meant for Enduro and all mountain type of riding; that being said itโ€™s also not a bad climber thanks to the low rolling resistance.

Current king of tires for wide rim profiles.
I loved the grip and ride feel of my 2.8 tires on my Mojo 3, but was looking to reduce the squirm and wander feel that sometimes happen under rowdy riding and jumping. These fit the bill beautifully! Much smaller than the 2.8 Nobby Nics, but tons of grip, great sidewall support, supple ride, and more confidence in hard riding. These were also way easier to set up tubeless than the tires they replaced. Did it all by hand with a standard pump in the first try.
Much better mud clearance in the back versus the plus tires.
Ever so slight of a BB drop compared to the plus tires.

Best one yet
I absolutely love this tie. I was running the 2.3 DHF upfront and wanting to give this a try. Love it so far. I used it the past 3 days in Pisgah and Dupont and this tire never lost traction. very cofidence inspiring and will run this again

Amazing Grip
I've been running those "enduro" style rear tires lately for less rolling resistance. I've come to terms that they wear out too fast in the rear and provide no traction after 150-200miles. The dual compound version of the Minion DHF uses a fairly hard durometer (70a I think) so it seems like it will last awhile on southern california's rocky terrain. The large knobs provide excellent control on the steep loose descents, though it is harder to purposely break free on switchbacks when needed.

I think I'll be running the DHF front and rear for awhile now... Oh, yeah so they are a little on the heavy side so if you are a cross country snob, probably not for you... if you don't care how long it takes to get up the hill and love hitting the gnar, then this is your tire

CONS: Heavy

Solid and predictable traction
Maxxis tires are my choice for all my bikes. The DHF WT is perfect for the varying conditions I ride in weather it be AM or XC. Not the best for deep dirt as they tend to float on top, but you should not be riding anyhow if conditions are that muddy. Sand, loose over hard-pack, loam, Clay with leaves and needles, lava-stone, and even fresh snow, this tire is as solid as they get. I love the EXO carcass, as I have never torn a sidewall.
I'm a heavier rider and sidewall flex and general carcass deformation is a major issue for me with most tires, but not with the Minions.
I take reliability and predictability any-day, over lighter and faster rolling alternatives.

Great tire, tons of traction
This isn't a tire for the faint of heart. This is a tire for those who are out charging, smashing rocks, and roosting corners. I am running mine front and rear on my Banshee Rune with 30mm ID rims and they set up great. While not the lightest tire, these have endured some tech, some smashing, and lots of descending. While not the longest lasting tire, the traction they provide is exceptional.

5 stars from me. I actually just re-ordered a second set for the year. First set got about 800 hard miles on them.

Sidewalls are bulletproof!
My 2017 Giant Reign was an amazing bike however the stock Schwalbe tires didn't have side wall rigidity that I was looking for in a tubeless setup. As soon as I put these on everything changed. What an amazing feel and the grip is beyond expectations. Thank you Jenson USA and Maxxis!

Minions... that's all I'm gonna say.
Minions are the best all around tire out there! The WT look more like a plus tire and are grippy. I run Max Terra front and rear, but the Max Grip in front and Max Terra rear sounds like a better combo.

Your favorite tire
You favorite tire, but even better by being tackier, and wider. I ran this on a 28mm internal rim and it was great. A little bit rounder profile, but it hooked up really well and griped like no other.

I HAVE A 2015 KONA PROCESS 134DL, WILL THIS TIME FIT ON THE WTB ST i23 TCS RIMS THAT CAME WITH THE BIKE ?
Jcc on Jun 22, 2016
WILL THIS FIT A 23mm INNERWIDTH RIM ?
Jcc on Jun 22, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Technically this will fit on a 23mm internal rim width, but the Wide Trail tires have their shoulder knobs moved as to optimize the tire performance for rim profiles with a 30-35mm internal width. This would change up the casing shape quite a bit. I'd recommend going with standard casing for a 23mm rim.
Is the mounted/inflated width actually 2.5 inches? I like my tires to be the width advertised.

Dumb question, what does TPI mean and next to Features what are those differences in laymen terms? Greg
Hyp05fxdl on Apr 26, 2017
BEST ANSWER: TPI means "Threads per Inch", it refers to the fabric used to construct the body of the tire under the outer rubber layer. Higher TPI means, generally, a more supple, but also more fragile tire. TPI is kind of like the difference between denim and silk. A higher TPI tire has a better ride quality and is usually lighter weight, but not always. 60 to 120 TPI is what you'll see on most nicer MTB tires.
How will it work on a 27 Id rim?
SERGIO J C on May 1, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hi Sergio. If you like technical trails, minion DHFs are your tires. If you like fast all mountain trails do minion on the front and highroller on the back. I have two enduros and one all mountain and I have DHFs on all of them. I love them. Good luck bud.
Want to put a 2.5" wide minion on a stan's flow mk3 and run it thru a Fox 34 fork. Will this work clearance wise? Thanks
JV Manley on May 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yep, it fits on my Fox 34 factory (non boost) 140mm with plenty of clearance on a 27mm inner diameter rim
I have 35mm iw rims on my plus bike. It came with 2.8 Maxxis Recons. Can I use Minion 2.5's? Will doing so make my BB too low? Spec (I'm assuming with the Recons) is 12.25 inches. Thanks!
A shopper on May 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Going down to 2.5"s will definitely lower your bottom bracket to sketchy levels. You'll want to either go with a 29" wheelset or stick with 27.5"+ tires.
I have a rock shox revelation rlt 27.5 solo air with wheels having an internal width of 25. Will these fit? Or will this fork not allow the tire width. If not, my 2.35 nobby nics don't hold up well. What would you recommend with the minion dhr 2.4 3c to match.
