Teva Pivot Shoes

The Teva Pivot All Mountain clipless shoes don't just look fresh... They are fully functional! The Teva Pivot is a skate inspired shoe with a last that was designed for cycling. The reality is that most of us don’t live close to chair lifts and we are hiking our bikes up steep mountain faces. Teva recognized that, therefore, one of the most notable differences between the Teva Pivot and other cycling shoes is that the shank size is smaller. The shank stops before the toes and heel so it’s still very comfortable to walk in. The amount of rubber on the outsoles was cut in order to reduce the weight of the shoe. In between the shank and the outsole they filled in the space with EVA foam. EVA foam offers great cushioning and is super lightweight. All the materials that the Pivot is made out of is quick drying and water resistant, so you won’t be swimming in your shoes. The Teva cleat backing plate was definitely not over- looked. The hardware enters from the top and can be fully accessed by lifting up the sock liner or can be accessed through a mini port on the top. Drop a wrench right in and you’ll be able to modify the cleat position while the shoe is on the pedal.

First time using clip-on bike shoes. Used only once. Slid on a rain soaked, slick spray on tar seal coated driveway, crashed 100 yards from my door and cracked two ribs in the process. So won't be riding for awhile.

The shoes work as expected. Learning to clip in and out was fairly smooth at the lowest clip setting. I'll tighten the clip settings, if needed, with more use/experience.

Buying footwear online or even reguar shoes/sneakers in a local shoe store usually takes a number of shoe/sneaker fittings before finding the right one. But these bike shoes fit true to size.

The front toe area has plenty of room if you have wider feet or just need/want the extra toe room.

The shoe foam inserts where rather thin, so I used another pair of inserts with more padding instead. Inserts are readily available in most stores. Doing so made the shoe fit better and feel more comfortable. But that seems to be a norm for most sneakers I buy anyway.

The straps help pull the shoe more snug if you want to. Putting the extra shoe lace material under the strap helps to keep them out of the front sprocket/chain area. A good thing.

As far as walking around in them: You can feel the metal clip under the ball of your feet as you walk. You feel a slight roll as your foot/shoe metal cleat makes contact with the ground. It doesn't matter once your clipped in, but I wouldn't use these as walking shoes.

I wanted to be able to get off the bike and walk around a bit while taking a water/food break or going into a store, etc. These shoes seem to fit that dual purpose bill.

You can also use these shoes for either the flat side of your pedal or the clip-in side.

If you see you are coming to a stop, light or crosswalk, you can unclip well before you stop and just use the flat part of the pedal. Then once you get going again, you can clip back in without too much effort or being concerned about falling over if your new to clip-ons...like me.

Can't comment on durability yet, with more use I can update. Fairly versatile for most general biking uses.

Bought these shoes using a JensenUSA money card as a perk to buying a new bike. Can't complain about that!

So no complaints from me, except for my broken ribs...ouch!!

Love the look and build quality of these shoes. Was stoked to get them for $100. Rode them on aggressive singletrack once or twice and they were fine, minus some break in tightness around ankles. Took them to Snow Summit bike park once and they were immediate painful on my arches, first run till the end. And then a cleat loosened and since i didn't have the extended Torx25 tool provided with shoes, I couldn't access the bolts inside the shoe. Took me 15 minutes and finally after unlacing the shoe I could get to the bolts. I literally have never been so bummed by a pair of shoes this much. They look so good! And feel so bad. I'm going to try something else.

Comments about Teva Pivot Clipless Mountain Shoes:

I tried to put the clips on the way they told me to but they would not stay tight I would go on one ride and then I would have to re tighten them, and the way they set them up it is such a pain to tighten them. Also the mettle where you put the cleat wears out super quick. But if you find a way to put them on so you don't have to tighten them every time then they would be a good shoue

    Clipped and Comfy

Comments about Teva Pivot Clipless Mountain Shoes:

I have been using cross country style spd shoes for years, and did so because I liked a lightweight and snug fit that velcro laces provides.

As an avid mountain biker who enjoys freeride/downhill and a killer climb, I was looking for a spd shoe that could provide a comfier platform and still give me the benefit of a cross country speed and snug fit.

I have riden with shoe for over 6 months, mostly on 1 hour climbs followed by a very agressive downhill in North Vancouver, BC. I love these shoes for the following reasons:

-super comfortable, lots of room in the toebox
        -lightweight,
-snug fit due to the lace/velcro combination
-never move around on my feet
-the cleat area is very wide, and I never have a problem clipping in, even on the hairiest of downhills when the foot becomes unlodged, which was always a problem with cross country style shoes
-some posters have commented that the inversed cleat design being felt and uncomforable when riding, I have not experienced this yet
-also comfortable when walking around the city post ride to get a beer or some well deserved food

        Cons:
I have not found anything I have not liked about these shoes yet. Have also not ridden in wet conditions, so not sure how they handle when the shoes get soaked.

        Highly recommended

Good fit for those who need a wide last. Comfortable for a bike shoe. I don't use cleats with this pair so I can't answer as to how well they work there. I use them mostly for mountain biking and occasional work commute.

I do a lot of XC and DH riding and so far these shoes have been great. Solid and comfortable.
I didn't bother with the tedious clip installation that Teva recommends...
No problems clipping in/out as I warned about.
Lighter than the five ten comparables, which is a big deal when you're a small gal not wanting ankle weights on all your rides. Great price!!

These shoes are awesome "enduro" shoes, I use them with my clips as well as my flats. They pedal uphill great when in the clips but you do lose some stiffness and gain some weight compared to regular mtb shoes. The power strap is awesome and the laces go to the top so you can get that foot numbing tightness. They can charge downhills on flats or clips, only issue I have ran into is the top down mounting technique. The bolts kept loosening, and my cleat would dance while I was riding. With the standard style bottom mount and a little loctite I havent had an issue. The shoes do run true to size in my opinion. I usually wear an 8.5 and 8.5 fits true.

Comments about Teva Pivot Clipless Mountain Shoes:

Coming from traditional (Shimano, Spec) SPD shoes, I was looking for a flatter soled shoe to take advantage of my CB Mallet's larger platform. I don't like 5-10's heavy feel, so I opted for the Pivots.

The improvement in contact with the pedals is amazing, compared to more "light trail" shoes (Shimano MT58, Spec Tahoe), the Pivots feel like planted on the pedals, and provide a lot of comfidence in out-of-clips moments. Also, while not the most trek-able shoes, they bite enougth in my trails' loose powder-like dirt when off the bike, and have just the right amount flex to walk while being rigid enough to be efficient when riding.

Construction and fit are ok (a bit under Shimano) and the feature of being able to adjust the cleats from the inside of the shoe (thus meaning they can be adjusted clipped in) is great, but for the first rides I did have to carry the special torx key included. The combination of laces and an adjustement band works great for me, and after several long rides there's no issues comfort-wise.

Sizing is a bit off but I was warned, so I ordered half a size up. (9 instead of 8.5). I thinks these shoes are top value; however, they semm to have discotinued this model.
