Teva The Links Shoe

The Teva Links was designed with the help of freeride mountain biker Jeff Lenosky. Teva began designing the Links by taking a hard look at Lenosky’s current shoe. They saw the busted toe on his previous shoe, so they added a flexible armor across the forefoot. His wet soggy shoes inspired Teva to use their Ion- Mask™ technology, which prevents the material from absorbing water on a molecular level. Teva mapped the sole of the shoe with his pedal. It’s really hard to find a part of the shoe that Jeff Lenosky wasn’t a part of. The Links was built for a pro, by a pro, to be enjoyed by mountain bikers across the world!

Teva incorporated tons of technology into the Links, to enhance your riding experience. Designed using their Spider365 rubber, the sole will hold its grip in all kinds of environments. The sole of the Links was designed specifically to be used with platform pedals. The aggressive tread on the toe and heel grip the dirt when you’re hiking your bike. The Teva E- Brake in the heel features a reverse lug pattern to give you downhill traction when you’re off the bike. Teva’s Shoc Pad™ increases comfort and allows for a smooth ride so feet are less fatigued. Extra padding was also used throughout the upper to soften landings.

Features:

So far these shoes have lived up to their description. I am an all mountain/trail rider that does not like to be cliped in. I like the freedom of being able to adjust my foot position, but untill now never felt connected to the pedal. I got these shoes a day before a ride and like any new shoe they were a little tight outta the box. I wore them around for the day to stretch them out to my feet and thats all it took. they are very comfortable, feel true to size and look like a regular sneaker so they can be worn out to the pub after the ride.wasnt crazy about the colour of the laces but they came with two other colours including black and top quality laces at that. Now for the best part...
I used these shoes in combination with the spank spike platform pedal.(also an amazing product) it felt like my foot was locked in and I was truly connected with the bike but still was able to adjust my feet with ease. during my short yet technical ride I crased and ended up with my feet in a body of water but the shoes kept my feet dry yet still breath well. I cant speak about the durability since I just got them but I have a feeling they should hold up to some abuse. over all a great shoe so far.

I ride clipless a lot but I like to switch up to flats depending on where I ride. My pedals are Shimano Saints with all the ion spacers removed. The shoes were very stiff out of the box. Took about a week of wearing at work to break them in for my first ride. Rode with them last weekend and here are my early observations: the stiff, wide soles transmit power well to my Shimano Saint pedals. The rubber is stiff and doesn't get gouges from the pins of my pedals like the gum rubber on my worn out old Vans. The stiff upper holds my feet snuggly in the shoe; no heel lift or sliding around inside which gives me confidence on my pedals.

Looks are subjective but I like the looks. They strongly remind me of a skate shoe.

My gripe with these shoe is the same most people have for all bike shoes: they aren't great for hiking in. With a stiff sole and wide toe box they aren't the best for hiking up or down hill. May not be a problem for better riders who can fly up and down everything but with my skill level and the slippery Pacific Northwest mountains I ride on it would be nice to have something with a lugged tread pattern. That may compromise pedal traction though.

If you want a riding shoe that is more like a hiker try the Mavic Alpine. It is a clipless model though.

Comments about Teva The Links Shoe:

I use this shoe on the trails near my house, lots of gravel roads and single track. This shoe sticks well to my Saint pedals. Definitely a lot of bang for the buck - it's really sad that Teva dropped this shoe from their lineup.

Bought these for my YETI SB95 bike and using the Race Face atlas pedals, these shoes are sticky . Ive tried the 5.10's and thought they were too heavy and hot. These TEVA's are much lighter without sacrificing durability.

Comments about Teva The Links Shoe:

I've had the shoes a couple months now and they are definitely made to last. They don't have the stickiest sole, but they do better than regular athletic shoes by a mile. Quick drying is a huge plus on these as well. For $60 I couldn't go wrong, and now that I've had them I'd say they were a deal!

I have 510s AND these are not as good. BUT they are more comfortable, have more support, and are easier to wear for longer periods. Its a good balance of riding shoe and regular shoe. I got the black ones, and I like how the blue laces pop, visually.

Im stoked to have them and would buy again. Stick to the 510 if you need full traction on your flats, but these are great to commute in, kick around the house, work on the truck, or in the shop.

I already have 5-10 impacts but when these came up at 60 bucks i thought second pair. I use these as my main shoe now. I like the look and comfort of them better than the 5-10 which has SUCH a thick sole they just look weird. These have a thick sole to but doesnt look as bad.

Grip wise they are not as grippy as the impact BUT this is what i like as its easier to adjust foot position on the move yet gets good stick still.
