The diverse range of terrain encountered in all-mountain/enduro riding calls for a bike that is rugged yet adaptable. Trailriders search far and wide for a bike with a responsive drivetrain and plush suspension, powerful braking and a bombproof frame that can stand up to rocks, roots, and high pressure landings—the kind of obstacles the raw forces of nature present at every turn. All of this in the pursuit of a trail bike that can truly do-it-all, that won't keep you guessing as the landscape changes, but will instead prove itself a tool to take you as fast, far, and high as your imagination desires. Your tiresome search ends with the 2014 Mission Pro. The elusive holy grail is found, a textbook happy ending unfolded, the fabled bike that can do-it-all has arrived.
The 2014 Mission All Mountain 6" frame is built from 6061-T6 Weapons
Grade Aluminum and features a hydroformed top tube, a butted and formed
downtube and seatstays, seatstay bridge, a tapered headtube, ISCG tabs,
a 142×12mm E-Thru Axle drop out and Diamondbacks legendary Knuckle Box
The Knuckle Box, or bell crank, is the core of Diamondback's single-pivot four-bar suspension platform. Optimally placed pivots equate to a low leverage ratio, and ultimately to superior pedaling efficiency and small-bump compliance. This also allows the shock to work more efficiently and reduces pedal induced motion, reducing the overall load on the system which will lead to improved shock and bearing life. Placing the Knuckle Box low within the frame, situates the greatest weight of the bike closer to the bottom bracket, which lowers the bike’s center of gravity and allows it to better track and corner.
A benefit of Diamondback's four-bar linkage is increased control over the wheel-rate. Wheel-rate is also one of the most significant aspects of a suspension system. Wheel-rate is the effective spring-rate when measured at the wheel. Working closely with Fox, Diamondback was able to optimize the wheel-rate to be linear-to-slightly progressive. This results in superb small-bump compliance, more perceived travel and excellent bottom-out protection. For the Mission Pro, Diamondback chose to run a Fox Float CTD adjust Air Shock with Boost Valve Technologies. The “LV” 216×63mm air shock with rebound adjust has a three position “adaptive logic” Propedal Platform to keep the rear riding plush. Three other adjustments put your bike in the perfect place for Climb, Trail, and Descend. The CTD’s patented Boost Valve technology provides a feeling of endless travel and plushness like that of a downhill rig, but with XC pedaling efficiency.
The Mission springs to life on the descent. Seeking a perfect fork for this all-mountain steed, Diamondback chose a Fox 36 Float R Air Fork. A 160mm fork up front allows the front end to sit slack at a capable 67 degrees. The slacker front end eats obstacles with ease and ads more stability on the descents but doesn’t compromise ones climbing ability. With 160mm of travel, open bath w/ external rebound, a tapered steerer, 36mm Easton aluminum stanchions, and magnesium lowers, this is a fork that means business.
In addition to top notch Fox Suspension, the simple, yet dialed Mission Pro drivetrain is comprised of a Sram XO X-Horizon rear derailleur type 2, X-0 11spd trigger shifters, and a SRAM XO 11spd Cassette (10-42t). The SRAM X1 X-Sync 11spd crankset with outboard bearing bottom bracket (24/36/AM) provide just the right combination of stiff, light and durable to make this the all mountain riders dream set up. A Crank Brothers Kronolog dropper post hoists a WTB Silverado saddle, while RACEFACE Atlas stem and handlebars round out the cockpit.
Supreme stopping power is supplied via the AVID XO Trail 4 piston Hydraulic disc brakes (200mm front / 180mm rear), which are anchored to the EASTON Haven 26” clincher wheelset.
