Race Face Single Narrow/Wide Chainring

These chainrings are a game changer for single-ring drivetrains! These Race Face Single rings now feature performance-enhancing chain retention technology, allowing them (for most riders) to be used without a chainguide! The secret are alternating fat/skinny teeth to fit more closely into the narrow and wide plate spacing of a normal chain, "grabbing" the chain and holding it more securely... even without the use of a clutched derailleur!

Race Face also managed to develop a 30T front chainring for a 104 BCD. Geekery aside, this allows you to get a low enough climbing gear for pedaling an All-Mountain bike up the trail, without having to buy different cranks.

The Narrow/Wide Single Rings are strong enough to stand up to the abuse of the downhill trail, yet light enough for cross country racers. Single Rings are machined from 7075 aluminum and tested in the most punishing terrain. They’re built to last!

Race Face Single Narrow Wide Chainring Features

  • 104 BCD
  • Narrow Wide tooth profiling ensures ultimate chain retention
  • Stiff 4mm plate thickness and I-beam construction transfer loads without flexing
  • 7075-T6 aluminum, aerospace grade strength
  • Reversible laser etched graphics.
  • Compatible for 9, 10 and 11 speed.
  • 30T 104BCD NW single ring is threaded with a standard M8x0.75 chainring bolt thread, see the hardware chart for the appropriate bolt length required for your combination on Race Face's website by clicking HERE.
  • If running a 30T ring, you will need the Race Face Chainring Tab Shims (D40331) which you can purchase by clicking HERE.

One of my best upgrades ever! I went from 3x10 to 1x10. coupled with brand new 2013 Shimano XT cranks (that I won in a race), shimano XT shadow plus rear derailleur, XTR chain, 11-36T cassette and race face bash guard (I know that you don't need this one but I didn't like the look of a "naked" ring.
I get the 32T and is perfect for my type of riding/fitness level, amazingly quite and ZERO issues with chain.

Comments about Race Face Single Narrow Wide Chainring:

I switched from a 3x9 22t/32t/41t 11-32 to a 1x10 30t 11-36. Top speed on trails with the 30x11 ratio ends up being around 25mph. There is no hill I cannot climb on a 30x11. Unless you race regularly (ie. every weekend) and need more speed on downhills I would not recommend anything larger than 30t in front. I have shadow XTR with clutch in the rear, with the Wide Narrow in front I have not dropped a chain ever.

Comments about Race Face Single Narrow Wide Chainring:

It's a single chainring. Not much to say except that it holds onto the chain, and when paired with a clutch derailleur, makes your chain virtually undroppable.

I bought this from my LBS and installed it myself. I got the blue version. Very easy to install. Felt solid and true. Took it out to my favorite trail and it performed great. Chain never made a sound or came off. I have put around 100 miles on it and it has proved itself every time. I have the 34 teeth model for a 1x8 drivetrain.

Comments about Race Face Single Narrow Wide Chainring:

                  Great chainring, amazing concept.

All riders should be grateful to SRAM for providing a model to copy.

Raceface quality, Walmart price. Super easy to install.

If you keep dropping chains with this ring, you're running the wrong derailleur, too many chain links, or not enough PSI's in your rear shock - trust me, it's the 4th or 5th drivetrain setup I've had on my Trek Slash and it's bangin'!

Get a couple of sizes so you can impress everyone at your local single-stage Enduro(TM) event by talking tech about swapping rings and dialling your gear-inches.

Absolutely speechless. Have been running this ring for the past season. Races, technical riding, jumps, spills, everything I throw at it (a lot of it being mistakes, and I have yet to have experienced a dropped chain with this. I am not running a chain guide, or anything. Simplicity, weight savings, looks, whatever reason you are getting it, you will find it will ultimately be "All of the above"

Comments about Race Face Single Narrow Wide Chainring:

I used this race face to convert to a 1X10. This chain ring is lightweight, looks great, and doesn't drop my chain. I have ridden a lot of bumpy terrain with no dropped chain and less chain slap. I did shorten the chain to the length recommended by a chain calculator. Works great and there are tons of colors to choose from. No issues shifting to the smallest and largest gears on my cassette. I use a 32 tooth race face with an 11-36 shimano cassette and SRAM PC1091R chain.
