The Air 9 is Niners fast, light, geared-only alloy racing hardtail. This upgraded version integrates hydroformed tubing throughout. More than a cosmetic feature, hydroforming allows Niner to shape tubes and optimize strength and stiffness in key areas, giving the ability to create beautifully tuned frames with precise ride characteristics. You will find hydroforming in the toptube, downtube, headtube, chainstays and seatstays.
Because of the larger welding area created by the new tapered headtube, we are able to include a massive hydroformed downtube as well as a significantly larger diameter toptube, contributing to a much stronger frame. Chainstays, seat tube and seatstays also benefit from hydroforming via controlled wall thicknesses and enhanced butting profiles. This translates to a rear triangle that is tuned for stiffness, strength and vertical compliance – in other words, ideal ride feel.
The Air 9 features a tapered headtube with an integrated headset. By allowing for the use of the newest generation of 1.5” tapered steerer suspension forks and integrated headset, Niner create the stiffest front end possible – leading to amazing steering precision as you carve a corner and descend toward the finish line, with the same stack height as their original Air 9 model.
The Niner Air 9 SLX Bike features an impressive component spec that is ideal for those looking to get serious about mountain biking. RockShox is well known within the industry for producing high-end suspension components that are easy to setup and use. Therefore, it was only logical that Niner chose to incorporate the RockShox Recon Gold TK fork with one of their leading cross-country race frame. The RockShox Recon Gold TK fork features 100mm of smooth suspension travel for eating up the trail. The 15mm axle and tapered head tube ensure the front end is stiff, helping maintain excellent steering, especially when riding winding single track or switchbacks. SLX is the introduction to Shimano’s mountain race line. Shimano SLX components are built to be tough and cost effective. The Shimano SLX 10 speed drivetrain provides smooth and accurate every time; there will be no sloppy shifts with Shimano SLX. Niner’s own alloy wheelset are heavy-duty yet lightweight, making a wheelset that will take a beating without weighing you down. A Niner signature cockpit rounds out this build, making it the perfect blend of quality, weight, strength, and speed.
