Niner has played a big part in the wheel size innovation movement of mountain biking. To them, it's not about a larger wheel size, or more accommodating geometry, it's about sharing an entirely unique experience on two wheels. Since they began in a humble Fort Collins, Co office, Niner has focused intently on building the rowdiest and most innovative big-wheeled bikes on the market. Their RIP 9 series prides itself on a meticulously designed Aluminum frame. In the process of designing this frame, Niner has revolutionized the way a long-travel, large-wheeled bike performs. The rear suspension is remarkably versatile, counteracting squat and bob to absorb shock without stealing from your pedal stroke. With short chainstays and a low bottom bracket, this bike is remarkably fun for a 29'er.
The 2 Star SLX kit delivers high performance Shimano drivetrain and brake components without slapping a high-performance price tag on it. The 11 speed cassette features an 11-42T range, giving you the upper hand on a vast array of trails. Sprint, climb, cruise, or descend, and do it all with ease. The SLX brakes in the front and rear boast 180 and 160mm rotors respectively, to provide excellent handling. Wide Race Face bars and a short stem place you in the optimal attack position in the cockpit. A KS Lev SI post lets you blend your climbs and descents seamlessly. The Niner alloy 29" wheels come complete with Maxxis Minion tires to give you complete control without slowing you down. If you are looking for a fun and versatile bike, you just found it. But get it while it's hot, for there are hammers to be dropped.
High quality frame Niner's RIP 9 frame is built from the finest Aluminum, and features masterfully crafted geometry
Plush Rockshox suspension The Lyrik and Monarch AIR deliver lightweight performance
Niner 29" wheelset The tubeless ready wheelset is lightweight and durable
Niners says this is a 2 Star bike... but I give it 4.5 stars
Full SLX and the new Lyrik for under $3K! If this was a carbon bike it would be at least a thousand more. Aluminum may be a little heavier but if you pay $1K more for carbon your frame AND your wallet will be lighter. At this price I've got money left for carbon wheels. Oh and the pix show an externally routed KS dropper post but mine actually came with a LEV Integra internal post. This bike handles great on the downhill and while it's not the lightest it actually climbs really well. The new damper and air spring on the Lyrik feel as good if not better than the Fox 36 I had on my last bike. The Niner rear suspenion handles big hits and washboard stuff equally well and pairs nicely with the fork. Took it on the Canal Plunge up in Kern and had a blast. Great build, great geometry WT DHF on the front and DHR II rubber out back. I can't think of anything to complain about. Very happy with my purchase.
