Here's the dilemma; you ride the road but rubberneck at every off-road path as you pedal by. You enjoy riding the dirt, but don't necessarily dig the hassle of packing up and driving to the trailhead. We feel your pain... The Niner RLT 9 just might be your solution.
Niner made history when they released the RLT 9, their first bike built for drop bars and "road" style riding. The RLT 9 was intentionally built for the curious and spontaneous. Think of it as the "road bike" for the mountain biker at heart. It's a road bike built to do basically anything you can think of - and have as much fun as possible while doing it.
One of the biggest benefits of the RLT 9 is that it offers a lot of options to customize tire size for whatever you happen to be riding on. If you mainly stick to pavement and fire roads you can use 700c wheels to run road or cross tires, or if you want something a little wider (up to 1.75") you can slap on a pair of 29" MTB wheels thanks to the 135mm rear hub spacing. The slightly longer chainstays, slightly lower bottom bracket, and a slacker head tube angle make this a real gravel grinder that's ready to be whatever kind of bike you need it to be.
To make this a bike you can truly ride on and off road all day, the RLT 9 features a hydroformed tube set similar to that of Niner's Air 9, engineered to meet Niner's ride quality standards which is also why it comes with a gravel-tuned, custom painted Niner Carbon fork to gobble up all those road and "not-road" vibrations. The frame is really designed for rough usage in mind; offroad it's stiff where it counts without being a jarring or harsh ride, and on-road, it's a smooth and snappy ride. The RLT 9 features internal wire routing for a future Di2 setup, and uses a PF30 bottom bracket shell allowing you to run it geared or single speed via Niner's new BioCentric 30.
Niner didn't skimp when they put this bike together. It's built with Shimano's Tiagra 10-speed system, which borrows a lot of design cues and features from their more expensive racing-level groups. Tiagra balances excellent functionality with comfort and durability. Shifting and braking are effortless, especially when paired with the rock solid Avid BB5 mechanical disc brakes. Low gearing out back means you won't struggle to find an easy gear when you're climbing steep fire roads. Tying it all together is a high-quality Niner-branded cockpit and wheelset wrapped in grippy WTB All-Terrain tires.
Race a proper 'cross race on Saturday, explore gravel roads on Sunday, and commute on Monday. The RLT 9 is exactly what you'd think of when hearing Niner made a drop bar bike: beautiful, versatile and ready to rip!
