Though 29ers originally debuted on the cross country course, Niner has taken the big wheeled bike and made it into a versatile, high performance trail machine. Capitalizing on the rolling efficiency of the 29” wheel, Niner designed the JET 9 to be more than just a capable climber. Through their patented CVA suspension technology and their trail proven geometry, Niner was able to create a 29” bike that was not only efficient, but was also nimble enough to handle the endless rock sections, drops, and even the occasional jumps that can be found on most modern trails. The award winning design entails sleek carbon upper rocker links and a custom forged allow lower linkage. Combine this with the 142x12mm rear hub spacing, and the power transfer becomes so responsive you’ll forget you’re riding a full suspension bike.
The JET 9 RDO features Niner’s Race Day Optimized carbon fiber frame production process known as Carbon Compaction System. Niner’s Carbon Compaction System uses a pre-shaped Styrofoam mold encased by a bladder that the carbon is then laid around. The firm Styrofoam core provides the desired shape of the frame and a solid platform for the carbon lay. The bladder is then inflated to fully compress the carbon against the outer metal mold for accurate compaction and a smooth inside wall, producing a fruitful list of benefits. First, it sets the carbon in the exact position it should be in without any shifting from a bladder inflating after layup. Secondly, it reduces the amount of excess resin to pool inside the frame, meaning lighter weight and less wasting. Lastly, it enables the inside wall to be free of wrinkles and loose fibers, resulting in fewer potential weak spots.
