Niner JET 9 Rock Shox SID RL Set

Niner JET 9 RockShox SID RL Set

Whether for you local race scene or all-day epic rides, the alloy Jet 9 is the perfect weapon. Niner has combined short travel with the rolling efficiency of 29”wheels in order to create a race ready bike for those of us who lack big money sponsorships. Niner’s patented CVA suspension delivers 80mm of fully active travel with superb compliance and damping via a custom-tuned FOX RP23 shock, while its performance geometry strikes a balance between stability and maneuverability. The Jet 9 also comes equipped with a tapered headtube that increases the rigidity and strength of junction between the headtube and downtube, a critical intersection.

The SID RL fork is one of the most famous forks in cross country racing. Featuring a 15mm Maxle Lite axle and Rock Shox’ Black Box carbon crown steerer, the SID RL provides all the stiffness you need at an XC race weight. It provides 100mm of travel and has external rebound adjust, low speed compression to lock, and air pressure spring adjust.

Jenson USA is awesome!
I had this shipped to my friend's house and the d-bag accidently put my brand new frame in it's box at the curb for cardboard recycling!! It ended up getting compacted into a 20' cube of cardboard. ffffuuuuuu! The salesman at Jenson sold me a new frame at the 50% off sale price (the sale was expired). Jenson came through in a big way!

Have 2 years on a Jet
Great one-bike-quiver for those that ride real mountain bike trails in real mountains. Lots of other bikes have low flatlander bottom brackets, this one is high enough to be proper in rough terrain. Rear suspension is efficient and well-behaved. Top tube is a bit on the long side for a given size, which suits me -- by sizing up you get a bit more wheelbase for stability along with the steeper head angle that steers fast when you need it to this bike is just about right for most types of terrain, great balance of attributes. You will not be dis-pleased with this purchase. All bikes have their issues, though, and this one is no exception. The biggest issue in my mind is cost, by the time you buy this frame and build it you will have at a minimum several hundred dollars more into the resulting bike than you will a complete Trek or Specialized or Giant or etc. The Niner is a nice ride, but it is not worth the premium in terms of performance, it may be worth the premium to an individual in terms of bragging rights for being on a boutique rig. I would not consider this frameset again, having owned one for two years, unless I already had a build kit to put on it. If you are buying a build kit to build this frame you are flushing your hard earned cash, buy something complete and spend that money on wheels. Pivot bearings don't last all that long, plan to replace them _at least_ once a season if you put quite a few miles on. If you don't keep your drivetrain in really good shape and clean this frame seems to have a tendancy to chain-suck, and when it does chain-suck.. due to the chainstay yoke design the chain will wedge and chain-stuck. This sucks. There also is no good chain protector for this frame, so you will end up with a chainstay yoke that looks all beat up from chain slap. The final issue with this frame is that it is a bit of a pig compared to its competitors, in size Large it is over 6lb w/ shock, there are alloy frames on the market in this travel range that weigh a full pound less, most carbon frames shave a full two pounds off of this -- and there are carbon bikes in the same price range if you get a complete.

PROS: Looks, High Bottom Bracket, Performance

CONS: Weight, Chain Protector, Pivot Bearing Longevity, Cost, Chain-stuck
