Orbea Alma 29" H30 Bike 2017
accept nothing less
Alma stands for the quickest lap times. It defines the steepest climbs. Alma is the bike for the strongest accelerations and high elevation gains. Alma is for the most intimidating stages, the loudest fans and the toughest riders. Alma is for the fiercest competitors, the athletes who accept nothing less than the greatest. When a few fleeting seconds separate fast from faster, Alma is for the fastest. Period.
A hardtail that can handle whatever you throw at it is hard to find. Orbea set out to design a light, fast bike that you can take anywhere. Their efforts were fruitful. A high grade aluminum frame is paired with a smooth fork and class leading components to deliver this race ready machine.
Complete with a triple-butted aluminum frame, the Alma 29" H30 is a mean trail ripping machine. The Rockshox Recon Solo Air will guide you effortlessly over obstacles, while the Mach1 wheelset is tubeless ready to carry a super low rotating weight. The Shimano XT group gives you gearing combinations to get through any terrain, and Shimano's hydraulic disc brakes give you optimal stopping control. Orbea's wide handlebar and low stem make handling a breeze, and the Selle seat keeps you comfortable even on long rides.

Great frame - but the triangle cross section (top tube especially) bruised the hell out of my knees until I developed the muscle memory to avoid any contact with it - never had this issue on my other bikes.
Probably could have gotten the size down, but I like my "horse".
Fork feels pretty good.
Wheelset is maybe a little too flexi, but I'm a big guy also.
Tires had very little substance, rear just exploded on a little pinch (now on Specialized Butchers).
Notable: The stock Suntour cassette folded over on a short, ride #2 uphill, which while not too surprising was still a bummer (now XT cass).
I also had a lot of ghost shifting on the Shadow derailleur and stock chain (possibly tweaked on that cassette fold?) - cleared up with new KMC X11.93 Chain.
Saddle was a little wimpy for a 6'4" 240 pounder, swapped out with a B17.
Brakes are great, shifters too.
Not a fan of the Shimano splined discs but they're working well.
Will probably build up a better wheelset in a year or so.
But right now I've got a solid, confidence-inspiring ride.
Again, very happy (I don't mind the fine tuning - been my experience on all my bikes).
