My bike came with Micheline tires. I would be safe to say that theu are a bench mark product for all other tires to be judged against. They were good and fast but not long lived. not my favorite on wet roots either. The Fire XC Pros were a definite step up from the Michelines. Big River is famous for long stretches of fast "Rollers" with Bermed turns. This part of RI is made of swampy low lands and what ever was left over from the last Ice Age. You get quite the geological mix of riding conditions that change with the weather. The XC Pros ate this up in great fashion. A great tire like this instills confidence. The down side is that, at a certain point, the tire could not hold up to the "Flogging" I was giving them. You need to run the preasure as low as you can in Big River for the roots. Fly into a rock garden with the wrong preasure, death is waiting for you. Despite this, I give them a good pinch flat rating. I just finished one ride too many with the tube coming through the tire, wher a lug use to be.

The Panaracer FireXC Pro is an older tire now but it still performs well. They are a lower volume tire in the modern tire world (they were not at release time) so compared to a Nevegal or Continental of comparable size you will need to run with more pressure and a harder ride. They are also narrower than most of the modern 2.1 tires.
The performance is great - I feel every bit as good as Nevegals. They have better puncture resistance than Nevegals as well.
Ultimately, the FireXC is a tire whose "prime" time has come and gone but that doesn't stop it from being a solid performer as it has always been.

Comments about Panaracer Fire XC Pro Tire:
After twelve years of riding Panaracer tires have never failed me on, or off, road. Due to some of the rocky terrain that I regularly ride these tires get a lot of abuse, and have never failed. Not only the tread, but also the sidewalls, seem almost indestructable. I do not come across thorns very often, when I plan a ride through goatshead territory, I use a tire liner to protect the tube.

Comments about Panaracer Fire XC Pro Tire:
I have ridden many different tires, but the Fire XC Pro are my all time favorite. The tires are light, grippy, and durable. I ride rocky trails and have never cut a sidewall and rarely get flats. I generally run about 40-45PSI and seldom have problems with grip, regardless of conditions. Great tires!!

Comments about Panaracer Fire XC Pro Tire:
I have placed many, many miles on these tires with the only flats happening through a massive rock garden on a downhill race. I have jumped large tabletops and raced 12 mile races with out a single issue. You get what you pay for and this is certainly proof.

Comments about Panaracer Fire XC Pro Tire:
These are great tires. They have great grip (even though they are a little on the narrow side) and they last a long time. The large knobs mean that they have some rolling resistance, but it isn't too bad. I like that they come in a variety of colors, too.

Comments about Panaracer Fire XC Pro Tire:
I'm back to the Panaracers after trying a set of Continentals, and Kenda Nevagals. Although, the Nevagals were excellent, I still prefer this tire - no washout, great loose rock climbing, plenty light for me, good straight line speed.

Comments about Panaracer Fire XC Pro Tire:
These are my go to tires for general XC riding. The kevlar version is quite light for a full tred tire. I run them at 40 psi and they have great traction and cornering on a wide range of conditions. I find they can pack up a bit in muddy clay conditions at lower speeds but they shed faily quickly with some speed. The sidewalls are a bit thin which could be a problem for bigger riders or low tire pressures, but i've never cut the sidewalls.

Tires grip great and tires are very light. The sidewalls are thin but tread makes up for it. Great tire.
