More and more cyclists are testing the capacities of road bikes by veering off the pavement onto the road less traveled in search for adventure. Whether you opt for light singletrack, fire roads, or graveled paths, these passages into new cycling horizons are most likely not suitable for normal road tires. Enter the Panaracer GravelKing. To solve this little problem, the GravelKing uses a natural rubber compound, a puncture protection breaker, and a special low rolling resistance casing. As a dedicated go-anywhere tire, the GravelKing is available in three widths (26c, 28c, & 32c) to suit both the roads and rides that vary between riders.
ZSG natural rubber compound offers low rolling resistance and long lasting wear
Bead-to-bead anti-flat protective belt
126tpi Advanced Extra Alpha casing performs well through a wide PSI range
32c has a different, knobbier tread pattern than the 26c and 28c tires
great tire to use when roads get gritty. I use it most of winter to ride on PA roads. Held up to alot of salt roads after snow storms and spring thaw. Plan on using in finger lake NY bonton roulet bike event since roads are not great in that area.
want bullet proof tires for your road or cross bike? These are the ones to get. They ride quiet on pavement, hook up on dirt/gravel fairly well for a 'file' tread. The 32mm models have knobs and really hook up well on dirt.
For the right person I think these tires would be amazing. I am not that person.
To install is not very difficult, I would say Medium level. Some tires go on buttery smooth, some are a 12 round fight to get on, these are somewhere in the middle. I did not levers to get on or off.
I rode these tires for a total of 30 miles that included 2 front flats and zero rear flats. Searched high and low for a source of the flats and could not find one on the rim, or inside the tire. After much debate it was determined that the tire has some bumps near the bead that mates the rim to the frame, the bumps could have prevented the tire from properly seating to the frame and caused the tire to come loose from the rim and blammo, flat. Never had that problem before. Maybe I got a lemon tire, maybe not, I cannot trust them anymore. Like I said for the right person, I'm sure they are great, I'm just not that person.
