Panaracer GravelKing SK 700C Tire

For rough fire roads, smooth singletrack, and everything in between

More and more cyclists are testing the capacities of road bikes by veering off the pavement onto the road less traveled in search for adventure. Whether you opt for light singletrack, fire roads, or graveled paths, these passages into new cycling horizons are most likely not suitable for normal road tires. Enter the Panaracer GravelKing SK. As the Gravelking’s more muscular brother, the GravelKing SK features a more aggressive tread pattern and a wider design to hone in on the sketchiest of dirt roads. As a dedicated go-anywhere tire, the GravelKing SK employs taller knobs, a ZSG Natural rubber compound, a puncture protection breaker and a special low rolling resistance casing. Available in three widths (32c, 35c, & 40c) to suit both the roads and rides that vary between riders.

FEATURES:

  • ZSG natural rubber compound offers low rolling resistance and long lasting wear
  • Bead-to-bead anti-flat protective belt
  • 126tpi Advanced Extra Alpha casing performs well through a wide PSI range
  • 40c is Tubeless Compatible. Other sizes are not Tubeless Compatible.

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • ISO Diameter: 700c / 622 / 29"
  • Width Options: 32c, 35c, & 40c
  • Intended Use: All-Road / CX / Gravel
  • Tire Diameter: 700c
  • Tire Type: Clincher
  • Bead: Folding
  • Maximum Inflation Pressure: 60 PSI / 4.13 Bar

Great for mixed surfaces
I've run these as 40s, and now have a 35 on the rear of my bike. I've been really impressed with how they roll on pavement as well as gravel. Most of my riding is on deteriorating chipseal with occasional jaunts onto gravel or dirt roads, and some glass-smooth concrete, so these things work great for what I use them. I'm running them tubeless, and my wife is also running a set of 35s on her bike (tubes for now, but plans for tubeless soon).

Just be aware they run bigger than the label shows. The 40s are 43mm wide on my 21mm internal rims. The 35s are more like 37s depending on the rim they're on.

With the Right Rim and Bike Set Up this Tire Goes Anywhere
picked these up for fall winter commuting on a steel disc cross bike, but with a 19mm Alex XD lite single wall rim, and despite knocking off the braze to allow clearance and hearing from the manufacturer that it should fit, the 40mm rubbed. and rubbed badly. but even if they had not rubbed, they were not very impressive traction wise. they washed out on any climb and couldn't bite into anything, and threw the bike over rocks and roots. the semi slick SOMA Shikoro is a better climber, haha. before throwing them on CL for sale, i decided to give them a 2nd chance at life on my Trek FX carbon hybrid. not marketed as such, they posses a little more mountain geometry so since i first slapped them on, these tires have been killing it. only knocked off a star b/c i got 3 flats 3 times out in the front. i have since converted the front rim to schrader (can be both with the converter plug), and had no issues busting through 25 degrees of winter crunch and crackle and snow. the 23mm double wall rim seems better suited to support the side walls and allows this tire to shine. the hybrid frame fits up to 38mm, but after removing a tiny metal plate under the bottom bracket, suddenly this Gravel King has helped to reimagine this bike into a fast, agile, competent trall and woods bike. on pavement i most enjoy seeing roadies shocked faces as these tires help us peel away from the pack. of course in open stretches, the gearing is suited for hybrid tweener riding and they catch up, but much respect is had as they realize this bike is much faster than most bikes with this size rubber. the soft compound and lower volume you can run (34-60PSI) mean it's uber comfy and sucks most bumps right up. blast to ride and i can keep up with most everyone on most all terrain so far. so happy i gave the a second chance at love.

Flat
Bought to run tubeless on my gravel bike. Flat after about 70miles on them. Straight up tear in the tire no joke. So much for puncture resistant.

Is the 35mm version of the GravelKing SK tubeless ready? The selection box on Jenson USA lists only the 40mm version as tubeless ready.

BEST ANSWER: The 35s aren't labeled as tubeless ready like the 40s are, but I'm running a 35 tubeless on the rear of my bike (40 on the front since I have a little more clearance) with no problems yet in several hundred miles.
