A repair stand seems like a standard practice today, but when the founders of Park Tool created that first stand, it was the first time repair work could be done off the ground where extensive back-bending was no longer necessary. It also allowed both wheels of the bike to freely spin during maintenance. Soon other shops and eventually Schwinn Bicycle Company saw the stand and production requests for new revolutionary device soon followed. From these requests, Park Tool was born.

The company quickly expanded their offering to include a truing stand, different repair stands including a double arm shop version, wrenches, fixtures, and consumer bicycle tools. Park bike tools have come a long way since those days, but their problem-solving ingenuity hasn’t faded a bit. Today, they still design and manufacturer bicycle specific tools in the United States, and continue to find unique ways to fix, clean, and finetune bicycles worldwide.

In April of 2013 Park Tool celebrated their 50th anniversary and moved into a new location, an 80,000 square foot facility built specifically for the company and their mission. They are now doing more manufacturing in-house than ever and their plans include expanding to do even more themselves. Their new purpose-built facility also includes a photo and video studio because they want to expand their web repair help articles and how-to videos to serve their customers.

The founders of Park Tool, Howard and Art, never imagined in 1963 that the company would grow into the ultra-successful company that it is today, but they are determined to not take their spot at the top for granted.
