Lightweight and very well made, this chain keeper does what it's name implies. It keeps your chain on.

I've never had an issue in multiple seasons of cyclocross (check out the pic -- works flawlessly in mud!).

Setup can be tricky and may require multiple attempts to prevent chain rub in the big / small cogs.

I trust Paul Components, so when I needed a chain guide, I had no qualms about checking out the Paul Chain Keeper. Quality component and good price. However, the chain guide is best for narrow chains. The product description clearly states as much, but I thought my chain would be fine. It was not. Still a quality component, just wasn't the right fit for me. Considering the prices of other options out there, I wouldn't hesitate to check it out if you have a narrow chain.

Comments about Paul Components Chain Keeper:

I use this on my steel CX bike to keep the 1x setup working well. It does what it says and keeps the chain where it needs to be.

As other commenters have said, the setup is tricky. There are two bolts and tightening them anchors the unit to your seat tube AND secures the position of the guide at the same time. This means that you can carefully align the guide only to pull it out of whack when you snug it up. If there was a separate bolt to secure the guide adjustment, it would be a breeze, but not so.

This is really a pain if you swap chainrings from time to time. If you don't tinker with your gearing, then setting it up once isn't too bad.

Side note...my frame has a boss for a deraileur cable pulley that prevents mounting this at the height it needs to be for a 44t ring (my usual setup). I had to grind the mounting hardware quite a bit for it to work. Not ideal for my frame.

My Catrike would regularly have it's very long chain bounced off the single chainring. The "Chain Keeper" has elegantly fixed the problem. Not cheap, but well made. I'd buy it again.

Comments about Paul Components Chain Keeper:

This product is well made, only works with narrow 8, 9, 10 speed chains, and I don't need it. I run a 1x10 setup on a hard tail and thought this would be needed. My Wolf Tooth Components chain ring combined with my XT clutch derailleur handles the job of keeping the chain put without this piece of added kit. I am moving this to my cross bike because I don't have a clutch derailleur on that bike and this thing is insurance against dropped chains.
Setup requires you to be precise and ensure you check the extremes of your driveline to set up the best compromise for your cassette.
Compared to other components out there this is one of the better ones made for this job.
