Comments about Troy Lee Designs Knee Guard:

These are surprisingly comfortable. They are obviously very protective, almost too much for 99% of mtn biking. But they are pretty light, dry quickly (after slogging through a river) Don't move around too much.

My only issue is the knee protection. It's pretty bulky and can hit the bike frame at times. This only happened a few times, but wanted to mention it.

Comments about Troy Lee Designs Knee Guard:

I have a later model (it may have been called the tld lopes at one point). These have three straps, with the shin guard coming down to mid-shin.

These are excellent for downhill-oriented riding - not too bulky and great protection when you stack.

They may be overkill for less downhilly-fast stuff. I really liked the old 661 kyle strait knee pads, but those don't offer any protection for shin strikes or pedal bonks against your shin or calf.

Comments about Troy Lee Designs Knee Guard:

Good pads for the money, I purchased each of my daughters a pair of the youth size. Despite the lack of the knee strap, they stay put and are comfortable. But because of the lack of the knee-strapping, they are very pedal-friendly and articulate very well.

    Inexpensive but only so-so performance

    By AdamB

    • Inexpensive

    Cons

    • Poor Strap Length
    • Poor Strap Placement

    Best Uses

Comments about Troy Lee Designs Knee Guard:

The biggest problem with these shin/knee guards is that they lack a strap above the knee. That allows the knee pad to flap around instead of staying tight to your knee. The lowest strap is very long and is barely tight enough at it's tightest position. These guards do not have any protection for the back of your legs if that is something you need. In their defense, I knew about all of these shortcomings before I bought them but I was sucked in by the low price. I have recently cut off the knee pad part of these guards and combined the shin guard with a pair of Fox knee pads. I would recommend looking at a different product.

Comments about Troy Lee Designs Knee Guard:

Plastic strap locks broke one by one.... that's not good.

There is no strap to lock the upper part of the guard, sometimes it exposes your shin. It happened to me twice. Not good memories!

Comments about Troy Lee Designs Knee Guard:

In a big fall, these will probably slide around and not protect your knee very well (there is no strap above the knee). However, great for XC rides (I've slipped a pedal and caught a "shinner" one too many times).

    Not the best knee...

    By Steve

    from Mogadore, Oh United States

Comments about Troy Lee Designs Knee Guard:

Not the best knee pads on the market, but for the price you cant beat em. If you're looking for a set you can shred up on the weekends these are them, but if you're looking for top line all around, these aren't your boys
