When my factory rim was wrecked due to a stick on the trail forcing the rear derailleur to bale into the spokes and break several, I used this to convert a low end mountain bike from a 13 – 34 freewheel into a bike that readily accepts 7, 8, and 9 speed cassettes.

That was over 6,000 miles ago. I am 6'3" and my weight can vary between 190 – 250 lbs depending upon my fitness level. I strictly ride old railroad lines that have been converted into rails to trails. They're sometimes a little rough with fallen rocks and the like, but I'm by no means jumping, climbing rocks, and things along those lines. I've hit large rocks and various other debris that have caused the rim to go out of true. Sometimes, the rim was bent so badly it rubbed the frame, but I had no problems bringing it back into true. I haven't suffered any broken spokes as of yet, but I am rather gentle on my bikes. My average speed on the trail varies between 15 – 18 mph depending upon the trail condition, and I cycle 140 – 200 miles per week when I ride my mountain bike. This rim has been through sub zero temperatures, all four seasons, and everything Central Pennsylvania climate can throw at it. I cycle in all conditions. It also serves as my rain bike. I am primarily a road cyclist. I don't mean to bang on about myself, but I feel that it gives the reader some idea of my cycling background so they can compare it with their style to better make a purchasing decision.

My rim was black and spokes were both black in color, and the paint hasn't worn or chipped off yet.

I would recommend this rim to anybody that wants an inexpensive alternative to being stuck with freewheels and wanting to make the switch to cassettes.

Thank you for reading my review. I hope that you found it helpful.

Cheers,
Bolillo_loco

The rim has proven to be quite good. However, I bought this wheel because it used DT spokes. I am heavy, but DT has lasted me 3-4 years on other wheels, but on this wheel 2 have broken in a years time. Best suited for light riders and casual use only.

Got this to replace a damaged rear wheel on my '94 Trek. It was tight a no true out of the box. I took it on some streets, sidewalks and finally some rough trails. No problems, works great!

Used on a hardtail mtn bike. I ride mostly in the city and hop curbs and drops no larger than two feet. This wheel was out of true after three or four hours of riding. Im like 140 lbs. definitely cheap results from a cheap wheel. If you keep it under 18mph and both wheels on soft dirt - this wheel is for you.

I used this wheel to replace one that had bent. It was easy to swap over the cassette and it worked just fine. It is not the nicest wheel ever but I have not had any problems with it.

Comments about Dimension Quality Wheels Alex Y2000 26" MTB Wheels:

Product is very great, I'm very new to biking and got help with the local bike shops where I live. I use it for my older bike for commuting to school and occasional trailing. The wheel can take a beating for I have ran over some huge rocks and curbs at a decent speeds. the only bad thing was that the nuts for the axel were loose on the rear wheel and needs to be tighten and slightly loose so the wheel rotation can be at best rotating speed... other then that the wheel is fantastic built for newer 9+ cassettes which my old cassette was a 7 speed great update wheel if you are on a budget like me a college student working part time. the only reason i gave it a 4 of 5 star is that jenson kept shipping ups which always shipped to the house 10 houses away... and they didnt help me talk to ups with my delivery. and the need to adjust the axel nuts.

I bought this as a replacement for a wheel with worn brake tracks and a broken axle. Out of the box the wheel was true & round. Only issues were that the bearing cones were too tight & the bearings not well greased. I added grease & adjusted the cones & all is good.

True and round wheel. As others have noted the bearings are crunchy and must be adjusted properly before use. Spokes were sized slightly long and spoke protrudes beyond the nipple head and with a double channel rim like this that means flats if you don't use a high quality thick rim strip like Velox or equivalent. I wouldn't put this on a high end mountain bike (well maybe in a pinch) but if you've got an old beater that you leave leaning up against the local coffee shop or locked at the train station, this is for you.

Should I use a conversion kit to change this wheel into a single speed from 8/9 speed free hub. Or should I just get the one that is a screw on freewheel.

Can I also change the quick release to a bolt on?
