Race Face Single Narrow/Wide Chainring
These chainrings are a game changer for single-ring drivetrains! These Race Face Single rings now feature performance-enhancing chain retention technology, allowing them (for most riders) to be used without a chainguide! The secret are alternating fat/skinny teeth to fit more closely into the narrow and wide plate spacing of a normal chain, "grabbing" the chain and holding it more securely... even without the use of a clutched derailleur!
Race Face also managed to develop a 30T front chainring for a 104 BCD. Geekery aside, this allows you to get a low enough climbing gear for pedaling an All-Mountain bike up the trail, without having to buy different cranks.
The Narrow/Wide Single Rings are strong enough to stand up to the abuse of the downhill trail, yet light enough for cross country racers. Single Rings are machined from 7075 aluminum and tested in the most punishing terrain. They’re built to last!

It works great on a 3x10 XO Sram crankset with 11 speeds. 30 teeth chain ring is ideal for long distance or extrem routes and for the steepest climbs rather than 32 teeth.

I used this on my Felt Nine 80 to convert it from a 3x8 to a 1x9 setup. It's performed great and i've never dropped a chain yet and I don't have any chain guard installed. Although i do have a short cage derailleur which probably helps some with keeping the chain on.
Wish i could find an Orange in 34t though.. but the blue still looks sharp.

I run a 1 X 9 setup on a steel framed hardtail and had been having trouble with chain drop on rocky descents. This chainring cured it absolutely. It gets a little noisy when cross chaining (because of the wider teeth) but the driveline is very stable.

It doesn't get much simpler than the RaceFace narrow wide ring. 10 minute install and you're up and running. The connection to the chain feels solid and confident, no dropped chains so far! Looks and feels well-built and is lighter than it looks!

My 2009 Jamis Parker II is 1x9 setup with bash guard and chain guide (top and bottom rollers). It was time to replace the chainring, chain and cassette. I decided to try the Race Face Single Narrow Wide Chainring based on the reviews. My local LBS removed the chain guide and recommended to keep the bash guard. The shifting is smoother and quieter without the chain guide. The chainring kept the chain in place and I haven't dropped the chain thus far.

One of my best upgrades ever! I went from 3x10 to 1x10. coupled with brand new 2013 Shimano XT cranks (that I won in a race), shimano XT shadow plus rear derailleur, XTR chain, 11-36T cassette and race face bash guard (I know that you don't need this one but I didn't like the look of a "naked" ring.
I get the 32T and is perfect for my type of riding/fitness level, amazingly quite and ZERO issues with chain.

It fucntion very well. Thanks with the narrow wide chaninring design. Now I not used the chain guide anymore with is I just bought 2 weeks after I have this superb chainring. So far so good, never fail to hold my chain even in the rough rock garden.
The only downturn is the tooth look very fast wear. The color also start fade at the chainring tooth.
