Race Face Turbine Cinch Cranks

Race Face Turbine Cinch Cranks

Completely redesigned for 2015, the Race Face Turbine Cinch crankset brings the precision and versatility of the CINCH system to the Turbine line of cranks. By ditching the standard built-in spider design, the CINCH system allows for nearly limitless chainring options. Swapping spiders or direct mount rings is no trouble at all, and when combined with a 30mm alloy spindle and compatibility across all relevant frame standards, the Turbine Cinch just might be the most versatile crank you will ever own. One part beast, the other part beauty, the Turbine Cinch crankarms are deep pocket forged and CNC machined to optimize stiffnesss and save weight. The Turbine's clean lines and sharp graphics will score style points up and down the trail!

Features:

  • Completely redesigned for 2015
  • Uses Race Face's revolutionary CINCH interface
  • Deep pocket forging and CNC machining optimize crank arm stiffness

Good Crank - Poor minor components
The crank works great for transferring power to the drive train. The problem is with the preload adjuster ring (Part#: F30022) that Raceface uses to adjust the width of the crank. This ring is a cheap piece of plastic that is easily broken by over tightening or by hitting a rock during a ride. I'm on my second preload adjuster ring that wouldn't be a big deal if they available but they have to be directly ordered from raceface through a bike shop.

I'm generally annoyed that raceface made an integral part of this crank out of plastic, that is easily broken, and won't drop one in the mail for me. I would not recommend this crank to anyone who is looking for a durable, long lasting component for their bike.

cheap design.
When you buy raceface you are expecting to get top notch gear. I love some of their stuff i have owned and unhappy with others for certain aspects. That being said i am picky and a mechanic by profession so design and function is #1.

I fault these cranks for two items. one is the oversized lock allen that not even myself being a mechanic owned the size and without buying a set of allens or a single overpriced i couldnt obtain. The other thing is the finger tight cinch wheel that is plastic and has a super small allen retainer that strips when loosing after riding in heavily dusty, hot, muddy, or other wise normal conditions in mountain biking.

Other then that they are great low weight alternative to carbon and super robust with the 30mm spindle.

Response from Jenson USA
Hey Doug, I ran into the issue of not easily being able to find the 16mm hex tool when my insert came loose as well. This inner bolt shouldn't have to be tightened often, as it is only used to press the crank arm off. But, sometimes they loosen up. I finally came up with a simple solution that is also dirt cheap. I went to my local hardware store, and picked up a 5/8" hex head bolt and a couple of nuts to thread on. Now, I can get plenty of torque to tighten this using the bolt head for the 16mm insert, and using the nuts with a standard wrench or box end set. Hope that helps. Keep Pedaling!

The future industry standard
Installing the single chain ring was super easy and clean looking. also without the spider to hold the ring, It makes it easier to keep clean.

Upgrade for stumpjumper FSR
Purchased as an upgrade over the stock crank on 2013 Stumpjumper FSR. Saved about 4oz over stock crank. Noticeably stiffer than the old one. Also less creaking, although some noise when climbing hard. The 30mm clinch doesn't fit the normal bottom bracket bearing. Had to purchase R.F. Brand bearing which moves bearings outside the frame. The crank width Increases as well. So far it's been a worthwhile upgrade. The price of the crank increases when adding in the chinch sprocket and bearing.

How many extra tools is RF forcing me to buy?
Installed this on my Niner ROS 9 and it appears to be durable and require little extra attention once installed, so high marks on that.

Now the negatives, all pertaining to what you'll need if you work on your own bike. You're very limited in which BB you can use and you'll have to buy a special wrench to install the RF BB. You'll also have to buy another tool if you are ever going to change chainrings. Finally, and this is the best, you'll have to find a 16mm hex bit (good luck) to tighten the puller cap, if it hasn't come off by itself in which case you'll have to buy a new one. Also, regarding the puller cap, dirt gets in there from riding which causes friction and loosens the puller cap automatically when you loosen the main bolt to pull the crank.

So 3 additional tools at a total cost of probably $50+ - I think I'll stick to my trusty Shimano Hollowtech from now on.

great construction and high quality.
I use this for mostly cross country and some easy enduro riding, but it feels solid. Super happy with the rigidity the cranks offer.

I have a 2015 Santa Cruz Tallboy LT has a standard 73mm threaded BB.What bottom bracket do I need to purchase with these crank arms? Will the RaceFace BSA30 BB do the job?
TimMY on Oct 4, 2016
BEST ANSWER: A friend of mine has a 2015 Stanta Cruz Tallboy LT with these cranks and a
RaceFace BSA30 BB. Everything worked out fine for him. He has recently
switched to a Hope "Bottom Bracket 30mm (Threaded)". He hasn't finished
putting everything back together on that bike, but when I was there and he
put it own, everything looked good.
Will this fit ibis mojo hd3. Why does it say 58/73?
Miguel A on Jul 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, frame has a standard BSA 68/73 bottom bracket which is threaded. The spindle on this crankset is 30mm so this is bottom bracket will work:

I have this exact same crankset and bracket on my SC 5010.
