Race Face Turbine Cinch 1X Crankset

Race Face Turbine Cinch 1X Crankset

Completely redesigned for 2015, the Race Face Turbine Cinch crankset brings the precision and versatility of the CINCH system to the Turbine line of cranks. By ditching the standard built-in spider design, the CINCH system allows for nearly limitless chainring options. Swapping spiders or direct mount rings is no trouble at all, and when combined with a 30mm alloy spindle and compatibility across all relevant frame standards, the Turbine Cinch might just be the most versatile crank you will ever own.

Features:

  • Completely redesigned for 2015
  • Uses Race Face's revolutionary CINCH interface
  • Deep pocket forged and CNC machining optimize crank arm stiffness
  • Industry standard 30mm spline interface CNC machined from 7050 alloy
  • Removable spider offers the ability to convert between existing chainring standards while remaining flexible to future developments

Specifications:

  • Intented Use: XC Race/Trail/Enduro
  • Spindle diameter: 30mm
  • Claimed weight: 622g
  • BB options (not included): BB92, 68/73 BSA, 100mm BSA, PF30
  • Bottom bracket not included. Click here for compatibility chart.

Good short term..... Very bad long term.... CREAKY CRANK
I purchased this crankset in January for a new Giant Trance build. The first ride was not until March.... Everything was fantastic at first, This crank and bottom bracket is extremely easy to install and is so nice and smooth for the first month. After that, it went all downhill. I had maybe 8 rides on the crank when it began to make a terrible CREAK, the dreaded bottom bracket CREAK. I said to myself, this cant"t be happening after just 8 rides. I took the crank apart, packed the bearing again and put it back on..... Still the dreaded noise. I went to my LBS and they even had personal experience with this crank making tons of noise. Needless to say, the crank came off his bike as well. The Cinch collar constantly comes loose, which allows even more noise. I have replaced the BB 2x since then, tried Loc Tight on the Cinch collar, replaced the bottom bracket with a Hope PF41 and still have this annoying sound every time the pedal rotates. If you dig deep, Almost everyone who purchases the crankset has an issue with noise at some point, even the carbon version. Don't waste your $ on this. I even emailed RF to see what they had to say, still no reply after a week. This crank is coming off my ride. Good luck in a search for a better crankset!

Best cranks for the money
Super attractive and easy to install. Look like a million bucks on the bike. Narrow wide chain rings is a must too. Thanks Jenson for price and always having what I need!!!

I would buy it again.
After I ordered the wrong bottom bracket, your sales person hooked me up with the right BB and sent it to me quickly. Great service!

A Fantastic Upgrade
Upgraded my Scott Scale's drive train this winter and went with this crank for 2 reasons. First, it is a 1x crank compared to the 2x that came stock. Second, the cinch system will make it easy to switch out chain-rings depending on the type of riding I'll be doing. Currently I'm using the 32t ring but I will keep a 36t in the garage for the switch out.

Looking to Replace Soon
The Turbine crankset came stock on my Transition Patrol. I have been really happy with the bike, but this crank has put a damper on that new bike feeling.

The crank is easy to install, and offers the simplicity of 1x drivetrain. I had no issues for the first 100 miles I put on the crank (approximately a month of riding). After that, the crank developed creaking noises. I figured it needed grease or that my bb was the issue so I serviced everything. After one short ride, the creaking noise showed up again. Two visits to the shop have yielded no better results. This cycle has continued for the last two months and I am at the point where I seem to have no choice but forking out for a new crank set. I would suggest purchasing another product, even if you have to spend more than you were planning.

A pain
If you get this crank you need
1) a BBT-22 tool and a big wrench to change the chainring. You also need a vice to get the leverage to undo the lock ring. That or push the chainring into the ground.
2) a 16mm allen wrench to instal the drive side crank arm (you can get by without it, but it's hard to get the 8mm bolt to hook up with the cap on
3) A special race face BB tool to remove the cups. This tool doesn't wrap all the way around so it is prone to slipping. 1 slip completely wrecked 2 of the divots on the aluminum cup.

on top of all of that, the preload adjuster is annoying, and the crank bolt comes loose. And after a year of CA riding the bottom bracket bearings are getting crunchy.

A nice crank on paper, but have never had a crank that was such a pain to work on.

Needs to go back to drawing board
You must be really careful setting these up. Was difficult to keep prop proprietary bottom bracket tool from slipping. I had to tap crank in with hammer. They are stiff and look great. But after a few months I started getting a creak from bottom bracket. I didn't want to buy two bottom brackets a year to keep them quite. These are no longer on my bike.

Amazing
I was skeptical about the whole Narrow/Wide chainring thing. Man am I won over.
Great looking cranks and a doddle to install.
Race face quality shines through.
Only 3 rides but on seriously bumpy terrain and no dropped chains.
I upgraded from a square taper crankset and the weight saving is noticeable.
You won't be disappointed with this

Attractive
Crankset installed and operates as described. The info inferred it was easy to change the chain ring to a different size. It might be easy to remove the crankset, I have not done this, but you cannot change the chain ring without changing the complete crankset.
