Comments about Retrospec 3-PIECE Cranks:
To the guy in the 1st review that gave the 3 star review.. You had issues because you used a 8/9 speed chain (Sram PC870) which is a 3/32" chain. The crank is a 1/8". If you would have used the correct chain then you wouldn't have to had modified it or had any issues. These are meant for single speed use not 1x6,1x7,1x8 or 1x9 bikes.

Comments about Retrospec 3-PIECE Cranks:
Bought this crank to convert a 30 year old MTB frame to a 1x6 for winter commuting. A major issue was that the paint was so thick that it interfered with the operation of the crank. The chain rode on the teeth of the crank and was suck up underneath it. This caused the crank to throw the chain off with the lightest brush.
As another reviewer had mentioned the remedy for the above problem is to sand the teeth. I started with a light sanding of the tips of the teeth and a little bit between them with 150 grit paper. I reinstalled the crank, same problem. I then sanding more aggressively, further down the sides of the teeth with 100 grit sandpaper. Still didn't work. I then sanded off the paint from the sides of the teeth to the "gum-line". This solved the problem. The frustrated final round of sanding ruined some of the finish because of over sanded, but I was so happy that it finally worked that I didn't care.
The installation of the crank was frustrating, took extra time. However, I would recommend this crank because of its fantastic price. I've attached a photo of my sanding job.

Bought this crank a couple weeks ago for a 1x8 build and I love it so far. The only problem I had was the powdercoat was too thick and the chain kept getting held up on the crank. Took some 400 grit sand paper and just lightly went over the teeth. Worked just great after that.

I got the 44t in orange a few months ago to go onto my old peugeot and it works great, every thing is smooth and clean about still, even after the many miles I put on it. If your building a single speed or fixed gear I can pretty much guarantee that you wont find a better crank with this many options of colors and ring size for a better price. Get this crank, it wont dissapoint.
Comments about Retrospec 3-PIECE Cranks:
I ordered the 44t, works just fine and the BCD just happened to match spare chainrings lying around. I can keep the awesome red cranks and still change up my fixed gear.
The only problem is that the paint does scratch easily, and chips and flakes at the chainring bolts.

put this my converted rigid, raw aluminum single speed felt q520. I switched out chainring bolts and went with light weight ano gold origin8s, and used some fsa fixing bolts. the bike is so smooth now, and the wieght difference since I took off tge previous crank is significant. for the price, this crank is incredible. the finish however, does chip easily.Oooo

I put this on my single speed converted mtb. I use it now as a flat lander commuter bike. For the price, these cranks are easy to assemble, install and so far have performed flawlessly. When I need to hit the trails, I simply swap out a 32t ring and off we go. They feel solid, perfect length for my pedal stroke, understated appearance. I love the all black look as well.
