put this my converted rigid, raw aluminum single speed felt q520. I switched out chainring bolts and went with light weight ano gold origin8s, and used some fsa fixing bolts. the bike is so smooth now, and the wieght difference since I took off tge previous crank is significant. for the price, this crank is incredible. the finish however, does chip easily.Oooo

Bought this crank to convert a 30 year old MTB frame to a 1x6 for winter commuting. A major issue was that the paint was so thick that it interfered with the operation of the crank. The chain rode on the teeth of the crank and was suck up underneath it. This caused the crank to throw the chain off with the lightest brush.

As another reviewer had mentioned the remedy for the above problem is to sand the teeth. I started with a light sanding of the tips of the teeth and a little bit between them with 150 grit paper. I reinstalled the crank, same problem. I then sanding more aggressively, further down the sides of the teeth with 100 grit sandpaper. Still didn't work. I then sanded off the paint from the sides of the teeth to the "gum-line". This solved the problem. The frustrated final round of sanding ruined some of the finish because of over sanded, but I was so happy that it finally worked that I didn't care.

The installation of the crank was frustrating, took extra time. However, I would recommend this crank because of its fantastic price. I've attached a photo of my sanding job.

Comments about Retrospec Forged 3-PIECE Cranks:

This is a solid crank, I bought it in green and the colour is really good/accurate to the ads. It is super easy to install however does not come with crank bolts so you have to order those separately. I ride a a fixie running the 44/16 ratio and that works really well for where I live with not many huge hills. The crank handles the stress of skidding and quick stops really well and I haven't noticed any significant wear after about 3 months of everyday riding with it. The only problem that I have with the retrospec cranks is the lack of sizes that they come in, I am totally cool with the 44 tooth crank but I could definitely see problems in only having 2 sizes available.

I was glad to see this product available as i was in the market for a new chainring and for the money replaced the cranks too. the paint was a bit scuffed when i took the two pieces out of the box even though the box showed no signs of damage but I figured they'd get that way eventually. bolted right on to my fixed commuter bike and are working out fine.

Comments about Retrospec Forged 3-PIECE Cranks:

Since my old pedals galled out the pedal threads on my prior crankset, I needed some new crankarms for my frankenbike commuter. I figured at it's price, it would be hard to go wrong. And why not hot pink? As mentioned previously, the included chainrings are a tight fit for 9 spd chains (which I have to have for drivetrain reasons). This is best used with an 8 spd or wider chain. Also, the paint flakes off if you look at it funny. I had to pull one of the crankarms to readjust my BB, and a big chunk fell off just from threading in my crank puller. So I guess it's functional overall, but you do get what you pay for. Time will tell if 165mm is a big deal (versus the 175mm I had before).

Comments about Retrospec Forged 3-PIECE Cranks:

Looks good, works well, my only complaint is that either the paint in the threads hinders a puller or the pitch itself is not the common thread and you should be very careful using a crank puller with it. Mine's never coming off, unfortunately - but not a problem because it seems to be a quality product! Go for it, you can't beat the price, period.

These things bolted right up without any problems. Looks pretty rad too. I have put over 400 miles on them in the short time I have had them. I ride trails and distance. None of the paint on the crank arms has come off, nor is anything tweaked. I am a 160 lbs rider. The cranks and ring has survived multiple little 10 foot drops and severe pressure being applied up steep hills. This is a great product and at really good price!

To the guy in the 1st review that gave the 3 star review.. You had issues because you used a 8/9 speed chain (Sram PC870) which is a 3/32" chain. The crank is a 1/8". If you would have used the correct chain then you wouldn't have to had modified it or had any issues. These are meant for single speed use not 1x6,1x7,1x8 or 1x9 bikes.
