Rocky Mountain Bicycles humbly began in the basement of a Vancouver British Columbia bike shop, in 1981. The employees first imported bikes to sell to their customers. Later, they began manufacturing and importing frames to their exact specifications. Rocky Mountain now produces mountain bikes, road bikes, and urban bicycles. The company has come quite a ways from their modest beginning; however, their core values have never wavered. Rocky Mountain Bicycles is just as sought after now as they were in 1981.
Though the Altitude has been around for quite some time, it has been completely revamped. To start, the Altitude features the 650b/ 27.5 wheel platform, which has taken the industry by storm. The 27.5 platform is the best of both worlds. The Altitude series accelerates and is as nimble as a 26” wheel bike, yet features the extra stability and traction found on a 29” bike. Rocky Mountain poured tons of technology into the Altitude series including ABC pivots, StraightUP™ geometry, SmoothLINK™ Suspension, and Ride-9. Once you throw a leg over the Altitude you’ll never look back.
The Altitude 770 MSL is composed of a FORM™ C13 Hi Mod Carbon Smoothwall Monocoque front triangle and FORM™ 7005 series custom hydroformed rear triangle. The Hi Mod Carbon front triangle dramatically reduces the weight of the bike, and produces a smooth ride without losing efficiency. The Altitude 770 MSL frame uses Rocky Mountain ABC™ pivots. ABC™ Pivots are Rocky Mountain’s patent pending Angular Bushing Concept™ pivots. ABC™ pivots are lighter, more durable, and are laterally stiffer than cartridge bearings. The Altitude 770 also features a tapered head tube for stiffness, press fit bottom bracket, and ISCG 05 tabs. The Rocky Mountain Altitude 770 features StraightUp™ geometry, which allows for efficient climbing. As the suspension sags, you are now in a powerful pedaling position of approximately 73°. This allows you to sit in the middle of your saddle with your weight over your pedals for efficient climbing. SmoothLink™ Suspension features minimal pedal feedback so you get a smoother pedal stroke. By placing the rear pivot above the rear hub axle, the average chain torque line stays parallel to the lower link, which eliminates pedal-bob. Lastly, the Rocky Mountain Altitude features the new RIDE- 9 system, which allows you to adjust the head angle from 66.6° to 68.3°, and the seat tube angle from 73.6° to 75.3° by rotating the chip at the upper shock mount.
The Rocky Mountain Altitude 770 MSL features an abundant amount of technology as well as a plethora of high end components. The Altitude 770 MSL is a race ready trail bike, itching to get on the mountain. The Altitude 770 MSL features the Fox 34 Float fork with the FIT cartridge and CTD technology. 34mm stanchions are thick and resist flex for a stiff feel. The Fox 34 Float uses a FIT cartridge. FIT stands for Fox Isolated Technology. Fit technology employs a bladder system that keeps the oil and air from mixing to provide optimal performance in all riding extremes. The Float suspension fork also utilizes Fox’s CTD technology. CTD stands for Climb, Trail, and Descend. CTD allows you to micro adjust your fork on the trail without messing with confusing low speed compression settings. To complete the suspension package Rocky Mountain chose the Fox Float Remote CTD rear shock with custom trail valving. No need to look down to adjust your suspension, the Float features a remote located on your handlebars. Together, the Fox Shocks suspension pieces work together to create a smooth ride that is both efficient, plush, and adds minimal weight to the bike. The Rocky Mountain Altitude 770 MSL begs to be ridden fast! Shimano XT shifters work with Shimano XT front and rear derailleurs to produce fast, smooth, and reliable gear shifts. Avid Elixir 90 XM hydraulic disc brakes stop on a dime, cool quickly, and produce smooth even braking. The RockShox Reverb Stealth seatpost is a nifty added bonus. The Reverb Stealth features 40mm of adjustability. Once you experience the magic of an adjustable seatpost, you’ll never want to return to a rigid. The Altitude 770 MSL features many other hidden treasures such as a Race Face Press Fit Team XC bottom bracket which is incredibly stiff and reduces the weight further.
Every aspect of the Rocky Mountain Altitude 770 MSL was methodically chosen. If you’re ready to throw your leg over a 650b race machine, look no further. The Altitude 770 MSL is ready to roll!

Comments about Rocky Mountain Altitude 770 MSL Bike 2013:
Simply put: the best bike I've ever had it. It rolls amazingly, climbs with easy, very agile, and descends with tons of confidence. Right on my second ride I've done two very technical drops that were in my bucket list for a couple of years. I just didn't have enough confidence with my previous bikes. I traded my Santa Cruz Blur LT (Talas 32 150mm fork) for this bike. One problem with the Blur was the 32 fork that dives and flexes. The Altitude comes with Fox 34 which is awesome. 27.5 rolls way better than 26 and is just as fun to jump, drop, do switchbacks.
The straight geometry also proved amazing on climbs. As my buddy and I mentioned, you climb with little effort. Rider 9's shock adjustment is also another great plus as you can customize the suspension for your taste and even to different rides.
I've fallen in love with Rocky Mountains while riding an 26 altitude in Whistler's cross country and the Flatline downhill at the bike park. The 650B Altitude is just another excellent bike from these guys. The best of them for me!
Besides the technology on it (internal cable routing, 142x12 thru axle, etc..) the bike looks awesome. The carbon frame is beautiful and has big diameters that make it look a very tough bike in a outstanding great looking package.
The only change I've done to the bike was swapping the Noby Nics for Hams Danf for better fit with the terrain where I ride. Also made it tubeless.
I am in love :-)
