Great Hub!
I never write reviews, but I feel compelled due to the two previous bad reviews. My 12 Spec Stumpjumper came with a terrible 12x142+ hub that didn't even last 200 miles. I put this hub on about 800 miles ago and it works flawlessly. I've been riding for about 15 years and have always had new higher end bikes. I am not sure what the other reviews are talking about when they are referring to bad points of engagement. This hub engages just like all of the other hubs I've owned. Anyway, I definitely recommend this hub.

Good hub for the price
I got this to replace a cheap stock hub that broke. I decided on this one because of the reasonable price and I like the SRAM X9 line. It is a good durable hub, at least so far (4 months), and I have had no problems with it doing what it should do. Keeping me on the trails. The only thing I don't like about it, and this is a personal preference or feel, is the slow/long engagement. It's not a real problem and not anything I thought I would even notice, but I do feel it on more technical areas or sections where speed changes quickly as in steep down and up. Anyway, I would recommend this hub if you're looking for a really good hub at a good price and don't mind a little slop in the crank on more technical areas.

Slow hubs
I just outfitted my recumbent trike with three SRAM X9 hubs. The rear hub feels smooth, but vibrates under load. My trike is 20 % slower coasting down my favorite hill. Will be replacing all three hubs soon.

PROS: Multiple Axle Options

CONS: Slow

Very long engagement
This hub came on an upper-mid level cross country bike. I'm not sure why they choose it, but that's a review for another company. The hub takes forever to engage. The "backing" nut has backed out twice, thus seizing my cassette and wrapping my chain. This time, it has damaged my rear derailleur. I have less than 200 miles on this bike. I will replace this with another, much higher quality hub. This is my first bike of this quality level. I've only owned mid-entry level hard tails. By the way, this is the only component by Sram that I have any complaints about.

Dead in less than a year
I bought the 12x135QR version as a like-for-like replacement on a wheelset that came with 12x142. After less than 12 months of riding on it, there is 1/8-1/4 turn of slop before engagement. I dont remember there being any slop when i first bought it. The only thing that I can determine is that the internal gizmos wore out. Like other people have mentioned, I also noticed bad shifting and the chain frequently coming off. I gave it 2-stars, because its a $50 hub. You get what you pay for in this case. Its not a great deal. But, I think its reasonable for the price. Regardless, I am now shopping for a new hub and will have to have the hoops laced up again :-/

PROS: Cheap, Quiet, Lightweight

CONS: Not Durable, Engagement

UPDATE TO PREVIOUS REVIEW
I can no longer recommend the X9 hub for bigger aggressive riders. It broke on me the other day after about 6 months of use. The damage is internal and as best I can tell to this point irreparable. There is no longer any engagement. IMO it is not designed for the load exerted by bigger riders under tough trail conditions. For the price I had my concerns about this but decided to give it a shot anyway. I really like SRAM Products and the X9 line is excellent IMO and felt it was worth the risk. However, still disappointed as I expected better.

PROS: Price

CONS: Not Durable

Well....
It appears to be bullet proof and is ultra quiet.(not sure why people want their hubs to sound like a bee hive through a PA) This hub gets a poor rating because of its engagement point. It is way too many degrees and very noticeable. Other than that it is great. It is sealed, light, inexpensive....just when the trail gets technical the engagement point is a little long and you will notice it especially if you are moving from from a higher POE hub to this one. Front Hub is fine and I would use it on future builds.

PROS: Strong, Quiet, Lightweight, price

CONS: Point of engagement

Please , don't buy this hub.
Wow, the word that describe this product it not allowed here, so a closer word would be: Mediocre. I've been a Sram Shifter and derailleur fan for many years but this hub almost made me change for Shimano. This hub is horrible, it came with my new bike and it doesn't let my ride my bike. I can't ride my bike because of this hub. The engagement is just in 3 spots so there is a lot of lag when you are shifting. As soon as you change gear, the chain will star to change but with the lag between engagements in the hub, it will cause that the chain drops roughly on the next gear. This is a chain breaker. 3 chains in 4 month! Evaluate your choices before buying this . I checked and there is a lot of cheap hubs that work better than this one , so the price is not a factor for this problem
