Its a cassette, not the type you put in an 80's style boom box or walkman, just a bicycle cassette. It's reasonably light, but will not perform miracles and make you god of the inclines. It does not pair well with white or red wine, however I have not tried it with a rosé and leaves you with a distinctive metallic taste and several chipped teeth if you try to eat it. I initially tried using it as a paper weight and found it superb, I don't know if it was the wide range (11-34!) or the carefully machined teeth, but it made absolutely darn sure that not a single paper flew off my desk, even at gale force winds!I installed it on the rear hub of my bike (I am sure you could fine an alternative place to install it, however your results may vary).Once installed I made some small adjustments to the shifters and pointed my bike towards the nearest trail. Of course nothing happened, since I was still in my living room, but the cassette looked really nice pointed in that direction, with the light coming in from the window and all. The next day I took it for a ride and found the cassette to be...underwhelming, there was no magical gear, nothing that made the ride easier, it just sat there and shifted, like nothing had changed, which to be honest, is exactly why I bought it. It is quite a bit lighter than my old cassette (which is now serving as an anchor for the USS Missouri) and shifting is still fine.

I'm a clyde at about 285 lbs. with gear and a 30 lb bike. I ride about 3 to 4x a week and I'm not overweight (I could lose 15 lbs) - just big. So, this review probably doesn't aply to most riders.
I upgraded to this cassette after I destoyed my last one. Figured this would be more durable, and well, I guess it was. I only bent this one a little bit whereas the previous one was like tin foil. My IRD casette (on a spare wheel) doesn't shift as well, but is far more durable. Guess I'm sticking with that.

Comments about SRAM PG-970 9 Speed Cassette:

In use with Deore components in use on a hybrid. Deore is overkill for my usage. No issues. I'm glad I upgraded from 7 to 9 speed although I never use the lower gears because I like to go fast.

I use this and a SRAM chain along with Shimano SLX cranks and chainrings, and XT derailleurs. They work well together and since these are so inexpensive with 10/11-speeds being the hot item I bought one as a spare.

Comments about SRAM PG-970 9 Speed Cassette:

Big upgrade at an affordable price. Really happy with this purchase. Threw this on my Trek 4900 (or was it 4500?...). Has worked great since. Increased efficiency for pedaling and reduced annoying noise. Next, I need to adjust the limit screws on the derailleaur.

Comments about SRAM PG-970 9 Speed Cassette:

I never have had issues with any cassettes I have owned, and I usually buy the cheapest I can get. Never had any issues bending teeth or anything like that. This cassette does have a matte finish (looks like sand blasted). That's pretty much all I can say about a cassette. To me a cassette is a cassette. It is whether your gear range and numbers match. If you maintain chain well lubricated, clean and change in due time, any of these cassettes should last you a long time. I also considered these as maintenance items, so if they do wear, not a big deal either.

It's a cassette. Price was good and I'm happy to go from an 11-32 to an 11-34. Went on easy with little to no adjusting of the derailer. Looks to be pretty tough.

I've had bad shifting on my $3500 Rocky mountain element for a long time. Shifting got better when I replaced shift cables and housing but not perfect, got even better when I replaced the chain but not perfect. then replaced the cassette. Now it is perfect
