Thomson Covert Elite Dropper Post

Thomson Covert Elite Dropper Post

Thomson components are known for their impeccable quality, attention to detail, and overall strength. No stranger to the all-mountain trail bike, it was only logical that Thomson would branch into the dropper seatpost market; furthermore, into the internal-cable-routed dropper seatpost market. The one piece forged inner post is strong and reliable as there aren’t any joints to loosen or fail. Their cartridge based system is designed to have the longest service life in the industry. Actuation is by cam so rider gets smooth, variable speed and height without resorting to a complicated, damage prone hydraulic actuator. The best part is while your buddies are bleeding their posts, you’ll be on the trails. There is no bleeding required for the Elite dropper seatpost. So, you can finally put your Thomson seatpost back on your trail bike now.

Quality!
Replacing my broken specialized black light on my SC Bronson and it was perfect timing with the release of the covert. Thomson makes quality components and the same is true for the covert. This was a difficult install due to the stealth routing as compared to the specialized external routing, but once completed it was worth the trouble. Very smooth and precise actuation with no death loop. Overall I am very pleased and as for durability only time will tell, so for now I am relying on all the positive feedback from the elite dropper reviews..

PROS: Thomson Quality

CONS: Difficult To Install

The Thompson seatpost has design flaws which need to be corrected..
Unfortunately there was sideway motion on the constancy post only after a couple of weeks of usage and I had extreme problems with the cable snapping at the handlebars which means I had to remove the seat post and install a new cable each time.????????

Game Changer
This is my first dropper, I went with the gucci thompson and it has changed riding for me. The installation guide is lacking, the online video is a joke. That being said it's super easy to install if you think about it and have some mechanical. The cable is the trick, it can be too tight and the seat won't lock in position. This is easily fixed by giving the cable a little slack, I had it pulled too tight.

Easy install, left or right compatible. Amazing modulation and feel vs others. Nice a small. Clever little cable garage in lever. Most reliable.

Very nice quality-typical Thomson! Although poor instructions, didn't take long to figure out and install.

Beautifully made, faultless function
I've had the 27.2 Thomson dropper for a year of use and abuse on another bike with no problems.

The internal routing looks better, and wasn't difficult to set-up.

Looks ace. Quality manufacturing.

Wish it was a lighter and cheaper. Also would like a 150mm option.

PROS: Easy To Install, Durable, Attractive Design

CONS: Heavy

Solid performance but needs an update for the remote
Solid performance out of the post, pretty straight forward for the install. The telescoping speed and movement remains consistent two years in even with Pacific Northwest conditions.
The post is a little heavier then some others and a little pricier but no service costs thus far.
The main area that needs improvement is the remote, the size and action is good but it mounts above bar which is obsolete with the new 1X systems and most after market remotes are not easily compatible without macgyvering a second cable head (Thomson utilizes the cable head at the post actuator end) versus the more common thumb remote end. Check out Wolf tooth remotes, fully compatible below bar mount with solid action and slick design.

higher price don't mean better quality
I own it for about 8 months/700miles . I weigh about 165lbs. It was flawless for the first 4 months , no up and down play or side to side movement , smooth and quiet , takes a bit of patience to install. Around 450 miles started to sag about 1/8" ,no biggie.
6-7 months into it had about 1/4" up/down play.Sent it back to Thomson ,they "fixed" it and came back to me with more play and a bit of noise during rise. Now during a ride it has a pogostick action going on, however still no side to side play. Also if your cable ever breaks the default setting is at full extention so you can still pedal home if need to. If I had to do it again I'd buy smthing cheaper and buy couple nice tires with the leftover money perhaps.

PROS: Attractive Design, No Side To Side Play

CONS: Problems After Few Months, Only Thomson Can Service

BEST USES: Upgrade, Mountain Biking

Good, not great
Been using mine for about a year. Broken a couple cables. No play side to side but after a year of use, mine sags at least half an inch at full extension. Gives a suspension type feeling. I have the non-covert model as well. I've had no trouble with it for 2 years.

PROS: Attractive Design

CONS: Heavy

can this dropper be used with carbon frames?
Jim-Beau on Dec 29, 2016
BEST ANSWER: As long as you torque the seatpost to the correct specs then yes. Also, this is the a covert dropper needing a port on your seat tube for the cable to run through. If you don't have the port then you'll have to choose the non-stealth version.
