Keep your chain on your MTB with K-Edge's MTB ring guard. This guard can work as a lightweight guide for single-ring applications, or also on a 2-ring drivetrain, by replacing the outer chainring on a triple crankset.

Comments about K-Edge MTB Ring Guard For 38T:

Think of this product more as a super-light & effective outter chain "guide" as opposed to a conventional bash guard. It's so light and thin it's unlikely to take more than one real hit. But I use it in conjuction with the cyclo-cross inner 2x chain catcher on my hardtail 29er. The chain is pretty much un-dropable, no matter the terrain or how sloppy I am going from my 38T to the granny & back.

However, be AWARE if you're using a Shimano 3X crank converted to 2X with the OEM rings, you will either have to modify your "center" ring or the guard. This is because the "chain peg" on OEM Shimano ring that lines up with the crank arm hits one of the "spokes" of the guard. One or the other will need to be removed with a pair of nippers (or hacksaw) & finished off with a file. I removed the offending spoke from the guard & I'm very happy with the results.

If it wasn't for the necessary modification, it'd be 5 stars all the way.
