Yakima Holdup Hitch Rack

The Holdup Hitch rack by Yakima is a must have for anyone interested in a high quality hitch rack. A new feature is the side-to-side adjustability that reduces bike-to-bike interference. Yakima understands that using racks can be difficult and confusing. With this in mind Yakima has the Holdup to be quick and easy to use. Another feature unique to Yakima is the StrongArm™ design. This feature enables you to load you bike quickly, whether it be 20” or 29er. That’s a large range of wheel sizes. Furthermore, Yakima understands that a versatile rack is an essential to any cyclist. Yakima has designed the Holdup to have zero contact with the bike frame. This allows for easy accommodation for Carbon Road frames as well as bikes with disc brakes and even full suspension bikes.

Once it’s all said and done the trays easily fold up, this is a compact design. The Yakima Holdup hitch rack comes with fully integrated security locks. These locks secure the bikes to the rack and the rack to the vehicle. SKS Lock Cores included. To top it all off, it comes in a stylish glossy black finish. What’s more is a metal bottle opener!

  • Side-to-Side Adjustability
  • Quick & Easy Assembly
  • StrongArm™ allows for wide range of wheel fitments
  • Zero Frame Contact
  • Folds up when not in use
  • Integrated Security
  • SKS Lock Cores INCLUDED

    Comments about Yakima Holdup Rack:

This has to be one of the best racks out there, very easy to use, rock solid and stable, get complaments all the time. Only negative is the cable that secures the bike could be a little longer, not a deal breaker. I highly recommend it.

    Comments about Yakima Holdup Rack:

This rack is probably one of the best looking hitch racks. It is also very easy to use, folds up very compact, and is fairly stable. If you do get some rocking, I've found that you can add plastic washers as shims around some of the pivot bolts to reduce any movement. The bit of wiggle is nothing to worry about, and is comparable or better than most other hitch racks. The big win for me was that the side swing door on a 2012 Toyota RAV4 just clears this rack when unloaded and folded all the way down. I have had zero luck with any other hitch racks that I've tried.

I really like this rack. It is really well designed and very easy to put together and install.
Only thing is that I cannot open the rear door on my FJ Cruiser. I knew this could be a problem. But I think it can bea easily fixed with a hitch height adapter.

      Comments about Yakima Holdup Rack:

as a solution for people who don't want the risk or inefficiency of a roof rack, the hitch rack is where it's at! There are few racks that can do as much as this rack at this cost!

I can throw my bike on the rack and secure it in less than 5 seconds and be on my way. I love how quick and easy it is to use. The securement mechanism is very secure (driven it through some pretty rough terrain and smacked it on stuff and it keeps on kickin') and fits pretty much anything but fatbikes.

The rack folds up quite easily and quickly when not in use with a couple quick release pins. The arms fold down and lock themselves into place which is really cool, and keeps the arms from swinging out and hitting your car. You can also easily lock your bikes to the rack using a cable lock that pops out of the top of the securement wheel hook, but the cable is pretty thin and not long enough to secure more than the frame only. I wouldn't trust it alone for too long in bad areas.

Minor quibbles are the redundant safety pin that reinforces the "rack folding mechanism" can work free on its own if it isn't inserted entirely, and has a weird little cable that ties it onto the rack, that also can fall off altogether since it's held in by a plastic plug that can just be pulled out. While the loss of this part doesn't really affect the rack's performance and isn't a structural component, it does cut down on some of the sway of the rack so I do like to have it. It just isn't all that secure. I lost that original pin but Yakima sent me a new one that I ziptied on. The other problem is that the cable securing this pin gets pinched into the hole that the pin goes into and eventually frays the cable. This is just dumb engineering, but again, pretty minor.

Other thing is that the rack does make some noise on the back of the car from swaying and bounching over stuff. It can't really be helped too much since it is a hitch rack after all but some more stiffness built into the design would have been appreciated.

All in all, great rack for the cash!

        Comments about Yakima Holdup Rack:

I use this rack 4-6 times a week so it stays on the back of my Jeep. Provides plenty of flexibility to accommodate various bike sizes. Keeps the bikes secure with no frame contact.

My only (very small) gripe is that I wish the lock line was a few inches longer as it barely fits through my frame and back.

Well designed. Heavy duty. No need to manually adjust for different wheelbases. Firm hold of the bikes. Folds up very well… but be careful because it will fold right into the back of your car. Really good powder coated finish in black, it goes with all of my outfits. Quick and simple to operate. USA product. Shipped lickity split from Jenson, regular UPS.

            Comments about Yakima Holdup Rack:

This version of the Yakima Hold Up is very easy to assemble and use. Once the hitch bolt is tightened the rack has no play at all. I loaded up my bikes, love the way the rack holds all types of bikes without ever touching the frame. On different occasions I took trips to local AM trails (30min away) & to a DH Park (1.5 hrs away), and my bikes made it to their respective destinations safe and sound. I did reach speeds over 75mph, bikes did not move. The security cable and the second hitch pin (shorty) give a better piece of mind when hauling my bikes. The rack folds up easy and is pretty small.

All in all I am very happy with the quality of this rack as well as its features. It was a bit expensive, but so are my bikes. I don't want to use a cheap rack for transporting my bikes. You truly get what you pay for! Yakima provides quality products and JensonUSA provides quality service.

              Comments about Yakima Holdup Rack:

I'm very happy with this updated version of the HoldUp. I was having trouble deciding between this and the Kuat rack, but I'm glad I went with this one in the end.

Not only is it $100 cheaper, but I like the bike interface and locking mechanism on the Yakima much more.

It took me all of 15 minutes to put everything together and install on my car. After it's all set up it'll take you less than a minute to load both bikes onto the rack.. No removing wheels, buying 15QR/20AR adapters ect.

Yakima also gives you a lock to keep the hitch attached to your car and a lock for each bike which is attached to the rack itself. No more buying expensive accessories for your rack just to keep your bikes secure. I was really impressed by this feature!

All in all, this rack is fantastic! I can't say enough good things about it.
