I wondered why these fit into the treads of my mountain shoes so much better - then I put the old cleat beside the new one to compare. These new Premium cleats are shaped differently and fit better into the shoe tread. These shed mud and snow even better and make a great pedal system the best for off-road use.
The new cleats also allow for lateral adjustment, unlike the original cleats.

I've been using a pair of Candies for more than three years now on both my road and my XC bikes. Double-sided clip-in is the best selling point for me. But the cleats for these pedals are soft and relatively expensive. So, Premium might be part of the name but it is only so for the first few months of use. To get the best out of this pedal system. you'll need to replace the cleats almost every year. Otherwise, it just gets harder and harder to clip in. CrankBros needs to reformulate their alloy to make these cleats stand up to normal mountain use. This is a very light pedal and cleat system with a lot of float. And sticking with the 1 series keeps the price very reasonable, and lighter.

Comments about CrankBrothers Crank Brothers Premium 6Deg Float Cleats:

They are the stock replacements. If you liked the cleats that came with your Eggbeaters or Cand(ies? ys?), these are like those, only the same. They last a decently long time, even if your rides include some hike-a-bike.

Comments about CrankBrothers Crank Brothers Premium 6Deg Float Cleats:

Most people have a story about their first time with clipless pedals. Mine was about 25 years ago when I lived in Miami. I was riding along on my road bike, trying to pedal in circles. That's what the guy at the bike shop told me to focus on. I didn't realize there were other patterns in which to push the pedals. Anyway, I was approaching a stop sign. At the same time a convertible, with it's top down, was approaching the same stop sign alongside me. When I looked over there were three very nice looking young women inside. As the car stopped they looked over at me, obviously wondering how so much goodness was poured into so little lycra. I'm sure they were also wondering how my feet never left my pedals. I, of course, was not thinking about my feet and my pedals. As I came to a complete stop, with my best, "hey ladies" smile, I slowly tipped over. My feet never left the pedals. With these Crank Brothers cleats, your feet never have to leave your pedals either.

these are a bit pricey, but there isn't any substitute for the original cleats. there are some others out there (Rock Brothers) that are less expensive, but don't work as well based on reviews I've read.

I have been using Egg Beater for about a decade, love them, but I really wonder if these Premium cleats are worth the cost premium over the standard ones. I can't seem to tell a difference in the performance. They do seem to wear more quickly than the regular cleats.
