Shimano M820 Saint Disc Brake

The Shimano M820 is the third generation of Saint. Saint was developed under the philosophy of “Pure Gravity”. The new Saint is dedicated to downhill racing and will allow you to speed up and slow down at World Cup racing speed.

Shimano's advanced Saint ICE Technologies brake levers feature shorter more ergonomic levers that feature tool free lever adjustment and adjustable free stroke for the ultimate in customization. The new Saint has superior heat-management with self insulating ceramic pistons and radiator fin extra wide pads. The overall operating temperature has been reduced by 50 degrees with 20% more stopping power, compared to the older version.

Shimano M820 Saint Disc Brake Features

  • SERVO WAVE lever pivot
  • I-Spec compatible
  • Anti-slip dimpled lever blade
  • Super stiff high power 3-layer brake hose for a more consistent lever feel
  • 4 piston caliper
  • Brake hose: Shimano Part # SM-BH90-SLB

Comments about Shimano M820 Saint Disc Brake:

These are really powerful and have good modulation. I was kinda disappointed that the free stroke adjuster does absolutely nothing helpful. What is does is adjust how far out the lever blades sit, but the bite point stays the same, pretty pointless in my opinion. I would have appreciated some sort of pad adjustment for one of the best brakes on the market. Good brakes none the less, I don't have super long descents close to me but they do get pretty steep and I haven't noticed any fade.

Beefiest brake for a tandem

Pros

  • Durable
  • Easy To Install
  • Powerful

Cons

  • Expensive

Best Uses

  • Full Suspension Tandem
  • Mountain Biking

Comments about Shimano M820 Saint Disc Brake:

I wanted the most powerful brake I could get to put on the front of my Ellsworth full suspension tandem with 203 Magura Storm rotors. The feel is so refined compared to the Magura Gustav brakes that I melted. Before they were discontinued, they had the title of the best brake. They are almost as plush as the XTR brakes on my XC bike. Being pre-bled, all I had to do was bolt them on to the bike and top up the reservoir.
