Shimano PD-A520 Pedals

Shimano PD-A520 Pedals

The Shimano A520 pedal is a practical single-sided platform clipless road pedal that’s compatible with 2-bolt SPD mountain cleats. The advantage of the single side design is reduced weight, better ground clearance and improved aerodynamics. These clipless pedals require clipless specific cycling shoes with 2-bolt SPD cleat mounts, which then snap into the pedal. We here at Jenson think they're the idea gravel bike or commuter pedal, as they have nearly the weight of race-level XTR pedals without the extreme price. If you require walkable clipless shoes and are riding mosty non-technical terrail that doesn't require split second, stomp-down clipping in, this pedal is just the ticket. By utilizing the standard 2-bolt pattern seen in mountain bike cleats, the A520 provides a larger cage platform for added comfort and power transfer. A larger platform ensures more of the energy you’re putting into your pedal stroke will actually propel you forward instead of getting lost trying to balance on smaller platforms, as well as improve comfort below the foot. The sealed cartridge bearings require minimal maintenance, so you can concentrate on your ride. Finally, adjustable cleat tension allowsyou to fine-tune the pedal's release tension to your preferences. At a mere 315g a pair, can be installed on your road racing bike with almost no weight penalty.

  • Light weight, aerodynamic single-entry SPD design.
  • Recessed SPD shoe compatible system allows for off the bike walking and efficient cycling.
  • Low maintenance sealed cartridge axle unit.
  • Adjustable cleat tension for each ride preference.
  • The legacy of Shimano Design, Quality and Performance.
  • Weight: 315g a pair.

Great
These are great for the recreational rider that doesn't want to buy two different pairs for shoes. Add a lot of comfort compared to Mtb pedals.

Amazing deal on a great set of pedals!
My Shimano XTR pedals failed, so I purchased these. Awesome pedals! I've done about 300 miles so far w/no issues.

Advantages: lighter weight, better clearance than the XTR's
Disadvantages: one-sided

Great deal from Jensen w/excellent service!

Great for this old roadie
I switched to these wonderful pedals a couple years ago - I was tired of replacing my Look cleats every season and walking like a dorky duck. While a bit heavier than the super race pedals of today, these fit my needs and are now on all my bikes, thanks Jenson!

Superb
Fantastic spd pedal for longer rides. Engages nicely and provides large area of support under shoe. Spins smooth an with little resistance. Not the easiest to ride with sneakers, (if you have to in a pinch) but not the easiest either.

Perfect
Pedals were very easy to install. They are lightweight and the silver color compliment the bike nicely. Functional design with a minimal appearance.

Great pedals
This is my first foray into clipless cycling. I put them on my indoor spinning bike and getting used to clipping in and out. Eventually I'll use them on my MTB. They are easy to clip into so I'll recommend them because they feel solid and smooth and it was a breeze installing them

Good pedals for the price.
Great pedals for the price. I have mountain bike shoes and not ready to commit to another pair of shoes and high end pedals for a road bike. These pedals have a nice platform for road biking.

Works great... light enough and adjusted perfectly... plenty of power transfer... I'm very pleased with this pedal... (no more slipping and sliding with look cleats)

Good pedals for first time clipless users. Takes a few times to get used to flipping the pedal with your foot to make sure the clip is facing up but not a big deal. You get used to it after the first ride.

does come with the cleats?
roland d on Apr 25, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No this is just the pair of pedals the cleats come separate
Are they weighted so that they position themselves conveniently for clipping in?
Aaron S on Apr 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Nope, it is inconvenient; after a little while you get used to glancing down, flicking it with your toe, and clipping in. I would recommend using it on a road bike or something where you don't need to make too many stops (then again you will get better at track standing).
Are these in 1/2 inch or 9/16 inch?? because I've been looking all over for a 1/2 inch...
Mikey on Apr 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: They are 9/16. I have never seen a 1/2 clip less pedal, or for that matter any modern, mid/high end road pedal in that size. I have been riding shimano SPD since 1990, and worked in a shop 1989 - 1999. Hope that helps.
The price is per pair ?
Juan F C on Apr 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, Shimano pedals are always sold in pairs.
