The aptly named XCR stands for cross-country race, and that’s not something to take lightly. When it comes to connecting the dots from the starting gate to the finish line, there’s simply nothing faster than a Dakar XCR 29er. The Dakar XCR 29er is an impressive specimen of trailblazing XC race performance armed with the advantages of a full-suspension design. For the XC rider looking to push the limits of their riding past the edge of normal, the Dakar XCR gives you the tools to nurture your penchant for speed while conquering terrain you used to avoid on a traditional hardtail XC bike. Whether you're looking for a new bike to explore the stretches of your local trail system, or gearing up to dominate the regional race circuit, the Dakar XCR 29 is a versatile, drool-worthy rig that leaves nothing but a trail of dust and desire in it's wake.
The Dakar XCR 29 Pro's main frame, stays, and bell cranks are constructed from full high modulus carbon, for a ride quality that is reassuringly stiff yet responsive. For 2013, Jamis made a number of refinements to the Dakar XCR frame, including a sleeker, lightweight shock mount bracket, 12 x 142mm thru-axle dropouts for faster rear wheel installation and a new 3-piece welded main pivot yoke with 25% larger chainstays so the rear wheel tracks perfectly with the front. The Dakar XCR utilizes Jamis's fully-active mp4 XC suspension design, which has been optimized for cross-country performance, with travel narrowed down to a tautly sprung, hyper-efficient 100mm that delivers a slight rising leverage rate in the first 40% of travel, and then is linear though the next 60mm of travel for a firm, responsive pedaling platform that keeps that rear tire firmly planted for pedaling efficiency and grip, whether you’re forging ahead on a climb or stretching your lead on a descent. Suspension duties in the rear are handled by a Fox Float CTD shock (w/ Boost Valve) that tames bumps and sudden shocks with precision. The Dakar XCR's plush front-end comes courtesy of the Fox 32 Float 29 CTD fork. The Fox 32 Float 29's 15mm thru-axle and tapered alloy steerer offer a rock-solid front end that refuses to quit so you can keep cranking on down the trail, dominating rock gardens and clearing sketchy terrain without hassle.
Jamis outfits the Dakar XCR 29 Pro with a sensible component package that is both economical and precise for no-compromise performance from the local trail to race day. The Shimano M552 Hollowtech crank is the power center of Pro build. The M552 crank is paired with a Shimano SLX rear derailleur and Deore front derailleur that are controlled by Deore shifters for smooth and responsive shifting that will inspire envy up and down the trail. The Dakar XCR 29 Pro rolls on a set of WTB Frequency Race i19 TCS wheels wrapped in the grippy but fast Geax Mezcal tire for a combination that offers a classy blend of strength, weight savings, and trailblazing speed. WTB Frequency Race i19 TCS rims are ready to be set up tubeless if you choose, and of course, work just fine with traditional tubed tires if you're not ready to make the transition. Shimano M596 hydraulic brakes give you all the power you need to stop on a dime or modulate braking when navigating a tricky section. Jamis decks out the cockpit with a WTB Volt saddle paired with a mix of Ritchey Pro handlebars, stem, and seatpost, ensuring that mission control is dialed and ready for blast-off.
