Purchased a set of these for XC racing to replace a Crossmark rear and Ignitor front. Much faster than the Ignitor, with just about as much cornering ability. More traction than the Crossmark, but a little slower rolling on pavement. Ikons are lighter than both of these tires, and makes the bike feel faster on acceleration.

In order to make them lightweight, Maxxis had to go light on the sidewalls, so I wouldn't use this tire on any trails with sharp rocks. Go for the EXO protection version (slightly heavier) for more durability.

Easy to install. First ride though a minor abrasion caused sidewall to fail, rendering the tire useless. Contacted Jenson, but no satisfaction yet.

Comments about Maxxis Ikon 29er F120 3C Tire:

I started using these tires last summer after burning through a pair of Geax that came with my new bike. I was getting ready to do the Leadville 100 and wanted something dependable, fast, light and still had a bit of a tread! My mechanic recommended these and told me he uses the 2.35 on his bike, so I got the 2.2's and now I use them all the time! I also bought the 2.35 for when I go to Fruita and Moab and love them. They can be used as a every day tire as long as you don't have muddy conditions because the knobs are close together and don't shed mud well.

I race in the midwest and these tires are pretty much perfect for staying on top of sand and hooking up on hard pack. These tires have been the perfect race tires.

I ride in Dallas,Tx where there's a lot of loose dirt. The Tires I had before maxis (geax mezcal) had me sliding everywhere. These tires aren't perfect but I'm about 80% safer.

Comments about Maxxis Ikon 29er F120 3C Tire:

The tire has a very thin sidewalls that won't stand up to much abuse. Its a race tire. You would be lucky to have this tire last much more than 24 hours. The side walls will tear against any reasonably sharp rock. It will spin up faster than any other tire on hardpack. It was a very fast feeling tire.

A rotating upgrade, saved a pound replacing 2.25 Ardents and increased grip on dry and hardpacked. Casing is thin to achieve this weight, not my first choice in rocky terrain. Retain grip as they wear better than a Racing Ralph.

Easy tubeless setup. One of the knobs ripped off after about 14 miles of pavement, 2 miles of singletrack and 3 miles of fire road.
