Diamondback Haanjo Bike 2014

Sometimes the path ahead is full of twists and turns: detours—planned or unexpected—that stretch across gravel roads, rural dirt routes, and time-worn city streets. The Haanjo is a bike for just those kind of adventures. It was designed to function as a long distance gravel and unpaved road race machine but, thankfully for you, the Haanjo transcends the bounds of the original design. Whether you're itching to cut a line through a stretch of untamed gravel or a simply in need of a versatile bike that can tackle the grind of the daily commute to work, The Haanjo is ready to roll.

Designed with stability and endurance in mind, the Haanjo features Diamondback's Enhanced Performance Geometry (EPG) which offers a slightly higher head tube height that helps to reduce strain on a rider's back and neck. This improves the fit for riders with marginally less pelvic rotation and core stability. The Haanjo also offers a slightly slacker headtube angle. At 70°, the headtube is slacker than a typical cyclocross bike, which is similar in many ways to the Haanjo. This feature along with a longer wheelbase offers the rider much more confidence and stability in the descents. Wider bars provide extra leverage for the climbs and added control. With mounts for a rack and fenders and room for larger tires, it is clear that the Haanjo is a very capable rig. Cross bike? Kind of. The perfect commuter? Perhaps. Comfortable long distance rides? Most certainly.

The Haanjo features a fully butted 6061-t6 alloy disc specific frame with a formed top tube, integrated tapered headtube and a carbon fork for stability and control. The FSA Gossamer Cross MegaExo crankset and a mix of Shimano Sora 9 speed drivetrain with Tiagra cassette offer great performance and durability. Avid BB5 cable disc brakes with 160mm front and 140mm Rear Rotors offer ample stopping power and a great feel. All new DB Equation CX 23mm wide rims are laced to alloy disc hubs for a stout and capable wheelset while a DBR flat bar and 3D forged, +/-7 degree rise stem offer a comfortable and stylish cockpit. Rounding out the capable Haanjo is a WTB Silverado Comp Saddle and DBR Performance Post to put you comfortably in the right position.

There are a lot of good fire roads and utility access roads where I live. This is a great bike for riding on them. I did switch out the handlebars.

Comments about Diamondback Haanjo Bike 2014:

Bought it as a utility/commuter. Parts are excellent for this price level, though rims and hubs are only ok. Frame seems solid and reasonably light. Nice having the fender and rack mounts. Could be used as a long distance touring bike.

Comments about Diamondback Haanjo Bike 2014:

Just picked up one of these as a city commuter. WOW is this bike cool! Not only did it build up way lighter than I thought it would, but the shifting is flawless (with some adjustment) and the mechanical disc brakes work surprisingly well! Build quality is good and the paint looks really nice in person. It has everything you could want: disc brakes, robust construction, fender and rack mounting and clearance for big tires. Realistically, you could race this bike in a cyclocross race out of the box, it's that solid.

The rear disc mounting is a little awkward to adjust (seatstay gets in the way of your tool, you will need a ball-head hex wrench or L-key) but once you get it dialed it needs little attention. Another downside is the loose ball headset lower... I would have much preferred a sealed cartridge bearing for longevity in bad conditions but this is nitpicking.

The only thing that would make this bike better would be hydro disc brakes... but you really can't beat this thing at this price point.

The wheels are actually quite nice with the 23mm rims, which make a big difference with durability and comfort, and supports bigger tires better. You can probably fit a 35c or a small 40c in the frame, but with fenders I believe you're limited to a 32c which is still plenty of tire... The knobbies that this bike comes with aren't *ideal* for street use, but will work fine. I will be upgrading the bike with 35c Vittoria Randonneur Pros with a reflective sidewall for maximum commuter power.
